The Caesar asked Raban Gamaliel, “Your Torah says that the Shechinah — The Divine Presence — comes to every place where ten Jews gather together to pray. How many Shechinahs can there be?”
Raban Gamaliel asked the Caesar’s attendant, “Why does the sun shine in Caesar’s palace?”
The attendant responded, “The sun shines upon the whole world.”
Raban Gamaliel concluded, “If the sun, which is one of HaShem’s ministers shines upon the whole world, then certainly, Hashem shines upon the entire world!”
If the sun has the magnitude to shine upon the entire world — then certainly the Creator of the sun, as well as the countless stars, and the multitudes of angels — has the power to shine upon the entire world.
Once, we have Raban Gamliel’s comparison of the sun to HaShem, it is easy to conceptualize that HaShem shines upon the entire world.
Next time you pray rejoice in knowing that the Shechinah — The Divine Presence — is standing there with you.
Hashem has come to sanctify you, listen to your prayers, make peace, and bring you the Supreme joy of being in His presence!
