SF - How to See the Uniqueness in Every Family Member

How to See the Uniqueness in Every Family Member

In preparation for the confrontation with Esav, Yaacov separated his family into two camps. At that moment, Yaacov acknowledged HaShem's great kindness, "I crossed over the Jordan River with a mere stick and now I am blessed with two camps." Didn't he realize before he separated his family, that HaShem had blessed him with a very large family? Rather, the Torah reveals that it is human nature to perceive our family as a collective unit. However, upon separating his family, Yaacov attained greater clarity and appreciation of each individual's worth.

Lesson: The value of a family is found both in the synergy of the whole group, as well as, the unique worthiness of each individual soul.

Visualization: Envision Yaacov separating his twelve children, two wives, and two concubines into two groups. The two smaller groups open his mind to see the distinct value of each family member. He sees each son, Reuven, Yehudah, Levi, etc. in a new light. See him attain a new level of appreciation for his family. Both collectively, as a whole, as well as, recognizing each individual as an outstanding and unique person.

SF - The Blossoming of Love

The Blossoming of Love

Moshe Rabenu was fitting to lead Klal Yisrael because his heart was like a fountain flowing with love and compassion. What was the impetus of his outstanding character? Firstly, the light of the Shechinah shone upon him when he was born, blessing him with special grace. His spiritual beauty inspired his family to shower him with love and affection. In addition, when Pharaoh's daughter found him, she also embraced him with heartfelt love. The great love that surrounded Moshe Rabenu as an infant, opened his heart like a flower blossoming with petals of love.

Lesson: The love and compassion that a person receives, brings to life the feelings of love and compassion hidden in his heart. What's more, it inspires him to love and have mercy on all of the creations of HaShem.

App: Reflect on the love and compassion that you have received from your family members and dear friends and be inspired to perform acts of loving kindness and compassion.

SF - A Wholesome Attitude Towards Money

A Wholesome Attitude Towards Money

One of the keys to happiness comes through developing a wholesome attitude towards money. Our sages advise us to consider that the money in our possession belongs to HaShem. He deposits the money in our trust, expecting us to use the money for Mitzvos, tzedakah, and good deeds. As long as the money stays with us, we thank HaShem for His kindness and grace. If we lose the money, we accept HaShem's decree, knowing that this is also for our best interest.

Lesson: The proper attitude towards money is one of the most powerful factors in attaining good and pleasant character traits, and avoiding the pitfalls of human nature, such as greed and jealousy.

App: Consider your assets as a deposit left in your trust. Use the funds at your disposal to strengthen spiritual pursuits. Share your wealth with others and perform acts of kindness and goodness. Accept your current financial status, and thank HaShem for your livelihood and wellbeing.

SF - Spiritual Empowerment

Spiritual Empowerment

Upon returning to Israel, Yaacov was confronted by an angel who was Esav's spiritual counterpart. They battled so fiercely that the dust under their feet rose up to heaven. Yaacov clung tenaciously to HaShem and prevailed. However, in the midst of the struggle, the angel injured Yaacov. Before departing, the angel blessed Yaacov, "No longer will it be said that your name is Yaacov, but Yisrael will be your name, for you have battled with an angel and with man and have overcome" (Bereishis 32:29). Subsequently, HaShem healed Yaacov with the light of the sun.

Lesson: The confrontation between Yaacov and the angel foreshadows that Klal Yisrael will be endangered in each generation. Nevertheless, we will always prevail and triumph, just as Yaacov did. Moreover, the blessings and healing that Yaacov received signify the great light that will shine upon us at the time of our redemption, when the dominance of Israel will permanently endure.

App: Sometimes we face challenges which overwhelm us. When that occurs, envision Yaacov Avinu overcoming a warring angel by relentlessly putting his trust in HaShem. Transpose Yaacov's unshakeable faith in HaShem to your heart. Be confident that HaShem will help you to emerge victorious, complete, and spiritually sound.

SF - When the Chips Are Down Trust In HaShem

When the Chips Are Down Trust In HaShem

When Yaacov Avinu left Israel to find a wife in Charan, he was penniless because Esau had stolen his money. Yaacov remembered that when Eliezer went to Charan to select a wife for Yitzchak, he took ten camels laden with gold jewelry for the Kallah and gifts for her family. Yaacov thought to himself, "I don't even have one bracelet for the Kallah! Should I lose my faith in the Creator? No, I will not lose my faith in the Creator!" He strengthened his trust in HaShem for success and protection.

Lesson: Even if you don't have means to attain success, don't lose faith! Keep your poise and composure. Put your trust and hope in HaShem, and He will grant you blessing and success.

Visualization: Envision Yaacov Avinu arriving empty-handed to Charan. Listen to his inner dialogue: "I don't even have one piece of jewelry for the Kallah. Am I going to give up? No way! I trust in HaShem with all of my heart and soul. He is my Creator and my Merciful Father. I am absolutely positive that He will help me to find my wife!
