"And HaShem said to Avram: "You shall go from your land, and from your birthplace, and from your father's house, to the land that I will show you" (Bereisheis 12:1). The literal meaning of the phrase "Lech Lechah" is, "Go to yourself." In this light, HaShem told Avram, "Go to yourself," meaning, elevate yourself to the beautiful goodness of your pure and holy essence. HaShem "gave permission" to Avraham to transcend above the material influences of human nature and experience his inherent spirituality, wisdom, and goodness.
