The Fifty Gates of Understanding \ Parashat B'Shalach
D'var Torah: "And the Children of Israel ascended to the fiftieth level of holiness from the impurity of Egypt" (Shemot). At the time of the great Exodus from Egypt HaShem opened the Fifty Gates of Understanding for the Children of Israel. This great spiritual emanation effectively elevated Klal Yisrael from the defilement of Egypt to the heights of holiness. "The fiftieth level of holiness" corresponds to the fifty day period from their departure from Egypt until the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. They ascended one level of holiness each day. Ultimately, on the fiftieth day, they reached the highest spiritual level preparing them to receive the Torah, as expressed by the verse, "I raised you on eagles wings and I brought you unto Me." Moral: The secret of the Exodus was the spiritual freedom that HaShem granted to Klal Yisrael. In His great power, HaShem elevated them incrementally each day, until they came close to HaShem on Mount Sinai.
Application: Reflect on the great spiritual enlightenment that HaShem illuminated on Klal Yisrael at the time of their miraculous Exodus from Egypt. Contemplate on their daily elevation until they reached the fiftieth level of holiness at Mount Sinai, at which point HaShem gave them the Torah. Be inspired by remembering that at the time of our final redemption HaShem will reveal a great spiritual enlightenment upon Klal Yisrael that will elevate us to the highest level of holiness, happiness, and awareness of HaShem.
