D'var Torah: "When the Supreme One gave the nations their inheritance, when He separated the children of man..." (Devarim 32:8). Each country produces people with unique characteristics. For example, Eskimos are native to Alaska and Aborigines to Australia. The different powers that HaShem implanted in each particular land produce these variations. The unique attribute of Eretz Yisrael is that the Shechinah dwells here. In this light, the holiness of Eretz Yisrael makes it the most fertile ground for human beings to grow spiritually. Just as the spiritual resources that lie within the Land of Israel produce the best esrog in the world, so too, eminently righteous people are indigenous to the Land of Israel. Even the air of Eretz Yisrael is so holy that it imparts wisdom to those who live therein.
Moral: The spiritual power of Eretz Yisrael engenders extraordinary growth for the individual Jewish people who enter her boundaries. It is the perfect environment for Klal Yisrael to blossom in closeness to HaShem and personal excellence.
Application: Envision our holy Avot: Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaacov understanding the secret spiritual powers that lay within the Land of Israel. See them make great efforts to live there. Envision all Klal Yisrael residing in Israel and absorbing its beautiful holiness. Imagine that you are praying at the Beit HaMikdash, and the Shechinah surrounds you with holiness and light.
