The Secret of Self-Improvement As Rosh HaShanah approaches we strive for self-improvement. The Torah illuminates a path of repentance that is relatively easy and powerfully effective. We are familiar with narrative of the sacrifices of Cain and Abel. HaShem accepted Abel's generous offering, yet rejected Cain's meager one. After Cain's sacrifice was not accepted he became angry and depressed. HaShem consoled him, "If you will be good, you will be elevated." HaShem revealed to him that man's core is good. Therefore, if man will simply access his inherent goodness, he and all of his deeds will be automatically elevated. Lesson: Repentance is the process of overcoming the negative tendencies of human nature by recognizing and embracing our holy soul. By defining yourself as a being of pure goodness, you and all of your actions will be spontaneously sanctified. Visualization: Envision yourself as an entity of pure goodness. Connect to the light and wisdom of your holy soul. Experience the spiritual elevation of yourself and the sanctification of your entire life.
