Shabbos is the most important gift that HaShem gave to Klal Yisrael. In fact, Shabbos is like a diamond wedding ring that HaShem gave us, symbolizing our unique relationship to HaShem. As long as we observe Shabbos, we maintain our close status with HaShem. This is similar to a couple who are engaged to be married. If they stop seeing each other, it raises suspicions that, perhaps, they broke their engagement. However, as long as the bride-to-be wears her engagement ring, it is clear that they intend to go forward with their wedding.
Klal Yisrael is the bride of HaShem, and Shabbos is our engagement ring. As long as we observe the holy Shabbos, we safeguard our eternal marriage contract with HaShem.
