Bring a Smile to Their Lips
"Do not afflict any widow or orphan" (Shemos 22:21). The verses specifies widows and orphans because they are more delicate and vulnerable than others. However, our responsibility to be sensitive to others is not limited to widows and orphans. Included in the scope of this verse is the tenet to be careful not to cause hurt to any human being.
Lesson: The Torah requires us to avoid offending every person -- in every circumstance and situation. Just as we treat others compassionately, so too, HaShem will shower His great mercy and kindness upon us.
Visualization: Envision that every person that you speak is as sensitive as a flower. Sense their inner struggles and empathize with them. Be gentle, caring, kind, and bring a smile to their lips.

Once, Rabbi Yisrael Salanter's student approached him and said, "If I had the mind of a genius, the heart of a saint, and outstanding character traits -- then, I could become a great Rabbi."
Rabbi Yisrael responded, "With your mind, your heart, and your character traits you can become a great Rabbi!"
Rabbi Yisrael dedicated his life to encourage people to strive for personal excellence. To this end he launched the Mussar Movement, providing guidance, techniques, and wisdom on how to develop good and pleasant character traits.
He had tremendous impact on the world and his message resonates today just as clearly as it did one hundred and fifty years ago.
