SF - The Righteous Blossom Like a Leaf \ Proverbs

The Righteous Blossom Like a Leaf

D'var Torah:"One who trusts in his wealth will fall, and the righteous will blossom like a leaf" (Mishlei 11:28). Some wealthy people consider their wealth as the mainstay of their life. Therefore, if they lose their wealth, which is not uncommon, they will also lose all of their self-esteem. Whereas, the righteous consider their wealth as one leaf of a great tree full of leaves. Meaning, they do not consider their wealth as the mainstay of their lives. The nature of the leaf is that even though it falls in the winter, it regenerates in the spring. Therefore, even if the righteous suffer a great loss,  they will blossom again. Since they don't identify themselves with their wealth, they remain optimistic and place their full trust in HaShem.

Moral: When people value Torah, Mitzvot, family, and friends, as the mainstay of their lives, they are able to see financial loss in its proper perspective. Even if they sustain a financial setback, they consider it as a very small loss, in comparison to the great tree of blessings that HaShem bestows upon them, which fills their life with unending joy.

Application: Envision you have a beautiful tree blossoming with countless leaves. Imagine one leaf falls to the ground. Say to yourself, "Why should I be upset over the loss of one leaf? I have thousands more of other leaves, they give me great pleasure. What's more, next year it will blossom again." See how this optimism and trust in HaShem awakens the great merit to constantly replenish your loss. Reflect on the important blessings in your life, and strengthen your heartfelt trust in HaShem. Know that HaShem will always replace your loss.

The Salant Foundation is currently looking for a Shul or community to partner with us in sharing the merit of the unique and important Salant Kollel. There are practical and easy ways (such as adoptakollel.org) to create a special mutual relationship between the Kollel and a Shul or community. If you think your Shul or community or workplace might want to participate in supporting the Salant Kollel, please contact Rabbi Zvi Miller at salantorg@gmail.com, and we will discuss how to implement your idea. Thank you!
