D'var Torah: There is a mystery surrounding Moshe Rabenu receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai. Our Sages tell us that HaShem taught the entire Torah to Moshe Rabenu in just a moment's time. If so, why was Moshe atop Mount Sinai for fourty days? The answer to this questions holds one of the most precious secrets of the Torah. Specifically, the Sinaic experience revealed that the essence of Torah is love. HaShem dedicated most of the forty day Sinai period to divulging His infinite dimensions of love for His creations. In fact, the primary purpose of Mount Sinai was the wonderful revelation of HaShem's love, particularly for Klal Yisrael.
Moral: Just as the essential revelation at Mount Sinai was HaShem's unbounded love for His creatures, so too, man's primary fulfilment of the Torah is his giving unbounded love to all of HaShem's creations.
