Looking to the Future
Upon entering Eretz Yisrael, Avraham's first destination was Shechem. He prayed there for Yaacov's sons who, in the future, would fight a war in this city. Afterwards he went to Ha'ai, where he prayed for his descendants in their conquest of Eretz Yisrael. Even before Avraham had children of his own, he concerned himself, first and foremost, with the welfare of his future generations.
Lesson: When we educate our children or students, it is appropriate to have in mind that we are building future generations. It is our sincere intention to kindle the light of Torah in their hearts, so that the flame of Torah will burn eternally in our future descendants.
Visualization: Envision Avraham Avinu praying for the success and welfare of his descendants. See tears of love, empathy, and care flow from his eyes. Hear HaShem tell him, "I know that you will instruct your children to walk in My ways."
