D'var Torah: "The blessing of HaShem makes one wealthy, and the wealth will be free of turmoil" (Proverbs 10:22). Neither sharp business acumen nor hard work is the key to personal wealth. Rather, the blessing of HaShem is the only cause of wealth. Moreover, when a person's wealth flows from the blessing of HaShem, he will no longer suffer anxiety regarding monetary matters. The blessing of HaShem brings financial security, i.e,"The blessing of HaShem makes one wealthy," as well as peace of mind, i.e., "the wealth will be free of turmoil." The blessing of HaShem that brings both wealth and serenity, is the blessing that HaShem bestows upon the righteous, who have the correct attitude towards money.
Moral: The righteous person is satisfied -- and happy -- with whatever portion HaShem grants him. He is content because he knows that if HaShem blesses him with wealth, the blessing of wealth will bring him tranquility.
Application: Reflect on how a righteous person, like the Chofetz Chaim, relates to his financial status. The prospect of wealth does not overexcite him; greed does not affect his sensibilities. On the other hand, if his financial circumstances are diminished, he does not become distraught. He realizes that if HaShem will bless him, he will regain his wealth without undue effort on his part.
