Leading By Example \ Parasht Terumah D'var Torah: "Speak to the Children of Israel and let them take for Me a portion, from every man whose heart inspires him you shall take My portion" (Shemot 25:2). The Mitzvah to donate materials to assemble the Mishkan (Tabernacle) was not expressed as an obligatory command. Rather, in contrast to the other Mitzvot, Moshe asked them to voluntarily donate the materials. HaShem's intention to dwell amongst Klal Yisrael was absolutely pure. He sincerely wanted to elevate their souls through the revelation of the Shechinah in the Mishkan. Just as HaShem desired to dwell among Klal Yisrael, so too, it was appropriate for Klal Yisrael to choose from their own will to welcome the Divine Presence to dwell amongst them. Therefore, the Mitzvah to donate the material for the Mishkan was left to the will and the yearning of Klal Yisrael. Moral: The moving example of HaShem's pure love for Klal Yisrael and His desire to dwell among them, inspired Klal Yisrael to give their donations with no ulterior motivation other than their pure love of HaShem and their desire to enjoy the splendor of the Shechinah. Application: Reflect on how HaShem's example to be close to Klal Yisrael, influenced Klal Yisrael to act in a reciprocal fashion. HaShem's desire to reveal the Shechinah to Klal Yisrael, elevated and inspired Klal Yisrael to desire and to know HaShem.
