D'var Torah: "Tell Beit Yisrael about the Beit HaMikdash" (Yechezkel 43). The holy Beit HaMikdash remains the focal point of our prayers, even nearly 2,000 years after its destruction. The Beit HaMikdash is HaShem's dwelling place on earth, and a microcosm of the universe. For example, the bright blue curtains represents the heavens, the wooden pillars represent the trees, and the Menorah represents the sun, moon, and stars. The inner sanctum -- the Holy of Holies -- represents the very soul of man! Amazingly, this signifies that the human soul is supremely holy, just as the Holy of Holies was the spiritual core of the Beit HaMikdash. Despite, the radiance of the soul, the material aspect of man obscures his inner light. Nevertheless, the powerful holiness of the Beis HaMikdash gave people a miraculous glimpse into their souls. The experience of commuting with the Shechinah awakened new vistas of spiritual inspiration in the heart of the Jewish People.
Moral: The holiness of the Beit HaMikdash resonates eternally in the consciousness of Klal Yisrael. Spiritual impressions are ingrained deeply in our psyche, even today, when the Beit HaMikdash is not physically present. By meditating on the Beit HaMikdash, we are able to stimulate these impressions and recall the experience of being in the presence of the Shechinah, the Divine Presence.
Application: Envision yourself entering into the holy Beit HaMikdash. Imagine the Kohen HaGadol officiating in the Holy of Holies. Sense the awe and happiness of being in the Presence of HaShem. Experience the holiness of your soul, the joy of spirituality, and be inspired to serve HaShem.
