Never Give Up \ The Faith of King David D'var Torah: "Even if a sharp sword is on your neck, do not give up hope from praying to HaShem!"(Brachot 10a). King Hezkiyahu elected not to bear children because he saw through prophecy that he was destined to have unworthy descendants. HaShem sent Issaiah the Prophet to rebuke Hazkiyahu for not fulfilling the Mitzvah of bringing children into the world. In no uncertain terms, Issaiah told Hezkiyahu, "Make out your will for you will soon die." King Chezkiyahu rebuffed Ishayahu's fearful message, "Finish your prophecy and get out. I have a tradition from my grandfather, King David, who said, "Even if a sharp sword is on your neck, do not give up hope from praying to HaShem!" King Chezkiyahu cried out to HaShem from the depths of his heart for mercy. HaShem accepted King Chezkuyahu's prayer and rescinded His decreee. Moral: Faith in HaShem is more powerful than any threat. Even a prophetic warning from HaShem, cannot stand in the face of absloute trust in HaShem.
Application: Reflect on King David's axiom, "Even if a sharp sword is on your neck, do not give up hope from praying to HaShem!" Repeat the words aloud with the intention to strengthen your faith in HaShem, even against all odds. Pray to HaShem in every situation, cry out for mercy, and He will always help you! (Based on Brachot 10)
