SF - The Secret of the Small Aleph

The Secret of the Small Aleph

The parashah begins with the phrase Va'yikra el Moshe - "HaShem called to Moshe." The word Va'yikra is written with a small aleph, like this -- ויקרא. What secret is revealed through this little aleph? If we separate the aleph from the first four letters, we have two words, va'yakar א. This can be translated to mean "the little aleph is precious and dear to HaShem." The "little aleph" refers to the aleph-beis (Hebrew alphabet) that is learned by Jewish children. The א reveals that HaShem loves the children and holds dear their study of aleph-beis. In the same light, HaShem cherishes and values the simplest Torah learning of every person.

Lesson: The simplest Torah learning of every Jew is as beloved to HaShem, as is the Torah learning of Moshe Rabenu!

Visualization: Envision children learning the aleph-beis with their teacher. See their purity as they say each one of the holy letters. Reflect on how much joy HaShem receives from the learning of these children. Regardless of your level of Torah learning, or how often you learn; know that HaShem loves you and holds every word of your Torah study, as precious as the Torah of Moshe Rabenu!
