Sabedoria para o Crescimento Pessoal

À  LUZ  DO  MUSSÁR

SF - Tu B'Shvat Edition -- The Blossoming of Man

The Blossoming of Man

Tu B'Shvat, the New Year of the Trees, marks the time when the sap begins to rise and flow through the trees. Yet, in the middle of the cold winter, there is no hint that the bare tree is coming to life. HaShem works secretly, commanding the sap to rise and the renewal of the trees to begin. Soon tiny leaves appear on the lifeless branches, followed by colorful blossoms. After a few months of hidden wonders, HaShem brings forth the miracle of the sweet fruits, all in their due season.

Lesson: The blossoming of the tree symbolizes the spiritual awakening of man. Even though man is encumbered by the material influences, his holy soul inspires him to elevate himself by coming close to HaShem. Once he begins his journey to uplift himself, it is for certain that he will soon blossom with the fruits of good deeds and pleasing character traits.

Visualization: Contemplate that the sap is beginning to rise in all of the trees. Consider that when you make the initiative to better yourself, HaShem kindles the flame of your soul. Just as the tree springs to life, so too, soon you will flow with the sweet fruits of Torah wisdom, the performance Mitzvos, and many acts of kindness.

Dear Salant Friends,

The 25th of Shevat, Shabbos (February 10, 2018) is the Yarzeit of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter.

Rabbi Salanter revolutionized Judaism by refocusing the central theme of the Torah on kindness, love of our fellow, sensitivity, and compassion.

He was like a lightning bolt that illuminated Jewish hearts with the light of morality, encouragement, and wholesome values.

The Chofetz Chaim said, "Rabbi Yisrael Salanter was an angel that HaShem sent to save Klal Yisrael."

Indeed, Rabbi Salanter once remarked, "The inspiring teachings of Mussar have the power to bring the Geulah."

The Salant Foundation works on many fronts to help strengthen Mussar in the world.

Please watch this short video clip that outlines the programs, projects, and progress of the Salant Foundation.

SF - The Gifts of Intelligence and Goodness

The Gifts of Intelligence and Goodness

"HaShem taught us more than the beasts of the earth and made us wiser than the birds of the heavens" (Iyov 35:11).

Contemplate on the great favor that HaShem has bestowed upon you in granting you intelligence and insight, together with many precious virtues of character, such as kindness, compassion, honesty, etc. These precious gifts of intelligence and noble character traits give man superiority over the non-rational living creatures.

Lesson: When we reflect on HaShem's unbounded kindness in creating our holy soul, and granting us intelligence and good character traits, we will be inspired to love, appreciate, and serve HaShem.

Visualization: Imagine if your were bereft of intelligence and a master physician opened up your faculty of intelligence and insight. Upon realizing the superiority of your present condition over your former state, you would thank and praise this man all the days of your life. How much greater is our debt of gratitude to our exalted Creator, may He be blessed, Whose favors to us are endless and Whose graces upon us are without bound!

SF - The Elements of Belief

The Elements of Belief

"I am HaShem your G-d, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery." (Shemos 20:2)

The words "I am HaShem your G-d" command Klal Yisrael to know and believe that HaShem exists and is G-d to them. This belief includes that HaShem is an existing Being; that He preceded every other being; that He created everything by His will and power; and that He is a G-d to them, and that they are required to serve Him. In addition, HaShem said, "Who brought you our of the land of Egypt," because the Exodus proved the existence, omnipotence, and free will of HaShem. The Exodus also proved that HaShem created the universe, for He changed the very course of nature. The verse concludes, "from the house of slavery," teaching that we are required to accept and serve the great, glorious, and awesome HaShem as our G-d, because He redeemed us from Egyptian slavery.

Lesson: The "First Commandment" contains all the fundamental concepts of belief in HaShem. Specifically, that HaShem is the eternal, all-powerful Creator, as well as, HaShem's special relationship - and salvation - of Klal Yisrael.

App: Envision that you are standing at Mount Sinai, together with the entire Nation of Israel. Imagine you hear HaShem say, "I am HaShem your G-d, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery." Sense how the holy, awesome words spoken by HaShem, penetrate your heart and soul, with their powerful truth. Internalize the elements of belief, and strengthen your commitment to accept HaShem as your G-d, and faithfully serve Him.
