SF - I Will Trust In HaShem

“A man will go in the Image of HaShem. One who seeks vanities will store them up, yet he doesn’t know who will gather them after he dies. I will trust in HaShem, my hope is to You” (Tehilim 39:7,8). The Image of HaShem embraces the spiritual powers of the soul, which is the essence of a man’s life in this world, as well as the World to Come. However, a person who pursues wealth and possessions, does not preserve his spiritual integrity. He abandons the eternal and seeks the transient. Whereas a person of faith places his trust and hope exclusively in attaching himself to the Holy Shechinah. The Shechinah will stay with him for eternity, unlike gold and silver which will not stay in his possession.

King David had the clarity to recognize the lasting and wholesome value of spiritual pursuits, and by staying on the path of the Image of HaShem he preserved the holiness of his soul.

Reflect on the great advantage of seeking spiritual pursuits in contrast to striving after material interests. Strengthen your commitment to be true to your Image of HaShem, the very soul that is the root of your spiritual powers. Purse Torah study, Mitzvot, and good deeds and as a result you will attach yourself to the Holy Shechinah for eternity.

SF - Love Your Family Members Like You Love Yourself

Lilui Nishmas Rav Yochocan Mordecia ben Rav Ephraim

Rabbi Akiva revealed that the primary Torah principle is, "Love your friend as you love yourself." At first glance, we tend to put this rule into practice by striving to love our friends, neighbors, and associates. This is surely commendable and praiseworthy. However there is another application of this great Mitzvah which we might have overlooked. That is, to intend to fulfill the Mitzvah of "Love your friend as you love yourself," right in our home, with our family and loved ones! We have the opportunity to enrich our relationships and accrue endless merits each time we perform the Mitzvah of loving others with our spouse, children, and parents. Moreover, when we relate to our family members while keeping in mind the Mitzvah to "Love your friend like you love yourself," HaShem will bless us with healthy and happy relationships.

The key to success in our family relationships lies in our intention to fulfill the Mitzvah of "Love your friends as you love yourself."

Envision the love and warmth that Avraham Avinu held in his heart for each and every person. Transpose Avraham's love to your heart. When extending love and help to your family members, have in mind that you are fulfilling the Mitzvah of "Love your friend as you love yourself" -- and receive HaShem's blessings for family peace, happiness, and joy.

SF - Connect to Your Holy Soul

“The lower branches of the tree, stimulate the roots” (Rabbi Moshe Cordevero). The life of the tree emanates from its roots. In light of the fact that the roots generate the branches, we would assume that branches receive energy but do not give anything in return. Amazingly, it is the very branches that stimulate the roots to generate their life-giving energy! Just as there is a symbiotic relationship between the branches and the roots, so too, there is a similar rhythm of growth within our souls. Whenever a person yearns to improve himself, he stimulates the very root of his soul. Even the most peripheral effort to grow, strikes a chord of stimulation in the heart of our spiritual center.

There is an intrinsic and inseparable connection between the roots of our soul and its branches. Every effort to elevate ourselves, stimulates a powerful surge of growth in the roots of our souls.

Envision a date palm tree laden with clusters of sweet dates. Reflect on the branches of the tree extending atop the tree in a circular formation. Consider how the branches of the date palm stimulates the life-giving energy of the roots. Make an effort to improve yourself, and sense the spiritual energy, holiness, and joy come to life in the root of your soul.
