SF - The Sweetness of Torah

The Sweetness of Torah

"This is the law of the Torah" (BaMidbar 19:2).

Torah study fills our hearts and souls with spiritual sweetness. Even more, the holiness of the Torah permeates our being, so that no impurity can influence us. Conversely, at the time of death the soul ascends to Heaven, leaving the body vulnerable to the impure forces, which are attracted to the sweet remnant of Torah. This explanation sheds light of the verse, "This is the law of the Torah." Meaning, the Torah decrees that as long as a person is alive, the sanctification of Torah protects him from all negativity.

Lesson: The sweetness of the Torah continuously imparts within our hearts powerful measures of holiness, joy, and spiritual protection.

Visualization: Envision Moshe Rabenu engaging in Torah study. See the light of holiness shine on his countenance. Sense his deep joy, true wisdom, and inner peace. Reflect on the fulfillment that Torah study gives to you. Fill your soul with the holiness of Torah, inner joy, and tranquility.

SF - The Raw Power of Hope

The Raw Power of Hope

On one fateful occasion, King David led the men of the city, Ziklag, to battle the Philistines. Upon their return, they saw smoke rising from Ziklag. They soon realized that in their absence, the Amalekites had attacked their city. They captured the women and children, including David's two wives, and burned the city to the ground. King David and his men fell to the ground and cried until they had no more strength to cry. Despite the unspeakable pain of this great tragedy, King David mustered his resolve by putting his trust in HaShem, as per the verse, "David strengthened his trust in HaShem." He picked himself off the ground, rallied his troops to thrash Amalek, and recover all of the women and children.

Lesson: If we strengthen our trust in HaShem, there is hope even in the most seemingly desperate situation.

App: Resolve to strengthen your full trust in HaShem, even in the most challenging crisis. Be confident He will help you to always overcome, flourish, and succeed!

SF - One Solitary Request

One Solitary Request

King David said, "One thing I asked from HaShem" and then he said, "One thing I will request from HaShem."

King David started speaking in the past tense -- "One thing I asked from HaShem" -- and then switched to the future tense -- "One thing I will request from HaShem. The entire duration of his life, King David seeks "one thing" and nothing else. Most people change their goals as they grow older. A child wants candy. When he gets a little older he wants a toy. When he becomes an adult he wants a wife, and a house, so on and so forth. However, King David had one solitary request throughout his entire life: "To dwell in the house of HaShem, all of the days of my life."

Lesson: A spiritually oriented person is singularly focused on the true, eternal joy of coming close to HaShem.

Application: Make HaShem the center of your life and come close to His blessing, joy, kindness, and holiness.

SF - The Precious Soul of Man

The Precious Soul of Man

A man who lived on top of a mountain decided to make a marble entranceway to his home. He approached an old man, who dealt in stone, living at the bottom of the mountain.  The old man said, "I am closing my shop and need to get rid of everything. Take this sack of stones, you can have it for free." The man graciously accepted and started up the mountain. When he reached halfway, the weight of the stones was very heavy, so he sat down to rest. Just then the old man approached and asked, "Why did you stop here?" He replied, "The stones are so heavy, I cannot carry them any longer." The old man smiled and said, "Did you look in the bag?" The man answered, "No." The old man said, "Please take a look." He opened the bag and saw it was filled with diamonds. Instantly, he had the energy to carry the gems to the top of the mountain.

Lesson:  HaShem creates each and ever person with a precious soul. Take a good look within your soul and discover your pure goodness, wisdom, and holiness.

Visualization: Envision Avraham Avinu reflecting on the beauty of his soul. See his heart awaken with goodness, joy, and kindness. Sense his inner awareness grow day by day, See how the goodness of his holy soul shines like a spiritual sun, bathing the world with love, compassion, and sensitivity for every creation.
