SF -- The Joy Of Chanukah

Two miracles took place at Chanukah: a small group of Torah scholars defeated the mighty Greek army, and one cruse of oil burned for eight days. Yet, why is it that the primary celebration of Chanukah centers on the miracle of the lights, and less on the military victory? The essence of serving HaShem is man's recognition of Divine providence in our lives. Through the miracle of the oil lasting for eight days, we recognized that our Mitzvos are precious to HaShem. We were greatly encouraged by knowing that just as we cherish the Mitzvos, so too, our Mitzvos are precious to HaShem.

There is no greater joy than knowing that HaShem delights in the Mitzvos of Klal Yisrael.

When you light your Menorah, reflect on the Holy Shechinah that comes close to you and surrounds you. Rejoice in knowing that your Mitzvos are infinitely precious, beautiful, and beloved to HaShem!

SF -- The Arizal On Chanukah

The Divine Wisdom of the Torah connects us to HaShem and lifts us beyond the limitations of the natural order. The Greeks professed that the world runs according to nature and that there is no spiritual realm. They tried to deprive us of our spiritual powers by imposing cruel decrees aimed at eliminating Torah observance. How did we win this religious war? The eight days of Hanukah always includes a Shabbos, and Rosh Chodesh. Also, the eight days of the festival alludes to Bris Milah, which we observe on the eighth day after birth. Shabbos refers to the sanctification of Klal Yisrael. Rosh Chodesh refers to the sanctification of time. Bris Milah refers to the sanctification of the physical body. Our determination to fight for the holiness of Torah observance overcame our stubborn enemies and awakened the great miracles of Hanukah.

The sanctification of the Jewish People through Shabbos observance, the sanctification of time through Rosh Chodesh, and the sanctification of the body through Bris Milah enriches our spiritual powers and opens the channels of Divine Intervention.

Strengthen your observance of one Mitzvah, good deed, or Torah study. As you strengthen your devotion, draw yourself closer to HaShem. Awaken the compassion of HaShem to bless you with holiness and light. Reflect on the countless miracles of HaShem that flow into your life, granting you spiritual elevation, success, and joy.

SF -- Diamonds in the Sand

“And Yaacov lived in the land of his fathers sojourning” (Bereishieis 37:1). The Torah tells the narrative of Yaacov and his progeny in vivid detail. In the previous chapter, the Torah recounted the generations of Esav, with no detail other than the chain of generations. The Medrash unlocks the secret of this distinction: Someone drops diamonds in the sand. He sifts the sand in a sifter. When he finds the diamonds, he discards the pebbles and collects the diamonds. The nations outnumber us and glorify themselves in their power and wealth. Nevertheless, HaShem has no real regard for the facade of importance projected by the nations. HaShem cherishes Klal Yisrael because we recognize the Creator and dedicate ourselves to the study and fulfillment of the Torah.

Don’t be intimidated by the numbers and might of the nations. HaShem views Yaacov Avinu, his descendants, and the entire Klal Yisrael as His most precious treasure.

Envision yourself as a priceless diamond cherished by HaShem. Imagine HaShem looking at you with unbounded affection. Hear HaShem say, “You are My most precious diamond.”

SF -- Trust in HaShem and Not in Your Wit

"Trust in HaShem with all your heart and do not rely on your wit." (Mishlie 3:5)

Perfect trust in HaShem brings us true happiness. This occurs when we trust fully in HaShem, with no doubts in our hearts, whatsoever. What is the secret of attaining wholehearted trust? It is the realization that HaShem, our compassionate Creator, is the Source of life and the Root of all success. Therefore, it is certain He will shower His kindness upon those who trust in Him. The more we place our trust in HaShem, the greater joy we will attain.

There are two advantages in totally trusting in HaShem. Firstly, we enjoy peace of mind because we are positive that HaShem will always help us. Secondly, we are confident that HaShem will provide all of our needs.

Envision the peace of mind and happiness that you will enjoy when you place your full trust in HaShem. See all of your needs taken care of by HaShem. Strengthen your trust in HaShem a little more each day. Increase your joy of life because whoever has trust in HaShem has everything!
