SF - Goodness is the Goal

Dedicated L'Refuah Shleimah for Rav Moshe ben Devorah

Binyamin HaTzadik ministered the communal charity fund. Once a woman appealed to him for help during a draught. He told her that all the money in the fund had already been distributed. She said, "Rabbi, if you don't help me, I and my seven children with perish." Rabbi Binyamin supported her from his own private resource. Subsequently, Rabbi Binyamin became very ill. The angels approached HaShem, saying, "It says in the Torah, 'If a person saves one life, it is as if he saved the entire world.' How much more so, when one man saved eight souls." HaShem immediately rescinded the decree and granted Binyamin HaTzadik another twenty-two years of life.

The ultimate goal of the Torah is repentance and good deeds. Binyamin HaTzadik's compassion and kindness fulfilled the essence of the Torah. Therefore HaShem granted him an additional twenty-two years, corresponding to the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet, from which the Torah is comprised.

Review the story of Binyamin HaTzadik and be inspired by his compassion and kindness. Contemplate on someone who needs your help. Think of the best way to help him and put your plan into action. Help him with an effective and heartwarming act of kindness. Perform your kindness with the same dedication and commitment, as if you were Binyamin HaTzadik. Rejoice in your fulfillment of the Torah and the great blessings that HaShem grants you.

SF - Our Children Are Top Priority

Dedicated L'Refuah Shleimah for Rav Moshe ben Devorah

"The hidden things belong to HaShem, our G-d, and the revealed things belong to us and to our children, forever, to fulfill the entire Torah" (Devarim 29:28). In the Torah, there is a series of dots written over the words, "and to our children." What is the reason for this unusual marking in the Torah? When a person writes a letter to a friend, he underlines certain key words in order to emphasize their importance. So too, HaShem, the author of the Torah, puts dots over these words to convey a most important message. HaShem is advising and reminding us, to always remember that that our children's Torah education needs to be our foremost priority.

With all of the involvements and responsibilities of life, it is easy to get distracted. In light of this, HaShem sends every parent a personal reminder to make their children's spiritual growth their primary concern.

If you are a parent or a teacher, reflect on how you can spiritually uplift your children or students. Take specific actions to accomplish your goal. Nurture with ample supplies of love and compassion the souls that are in your care.

Rosh Hashaná - Garantindo Boas Amizades!

SF - The Joy of Counting Your Blessings

Dedicated L'Refuah Shleimah for Rav Moshe ben Devorah

"Because you did not serve HaShem, your G-d, with happiness...." (Devarim 28:47). As long as a person fulfills the Mitzvot, what difference does it make whether he serves HaShem with happiness or not? Imagine someone who owns a beautiful house and takes on a project to build a second home. Since nothing compels him to make the house, he will put his plan on the "back burner." Conversely, someone who is without a home will put his full energy into completing the project as soon as possible. Likewise, if a person does not reflect on the supreme delight that HaShem grants him for each Mitzvah that he performs, his Divine service will be "lukewarm." Whereas, a person who is aware of the incomparable reward of each Mitzvah pursues his Mitzvot with great happiness, strength, and dedication.

The first step to serve HaShem is reflecting on the countless blessings, beauty, and pleasantness that we acquire with each Mitzvah, both in this world, as well as, the eternal World to Come.

(1) Envision the sublime joy that filled King David's heart and soul with each Mitzvah that he performed. (2) Transpose King David's pleasure of serving HaShem to your heart and soul. (3) Visualize that the light of Gan Eden shines upon you with each Mitzvah that you perform. (4) Perform your Mitzvot with happiness, vibrancy, and passion. (5) Reap supreme blessings, benefits, and reward both here in this world as well as your eternal life in Gan Eden.

SF - The Strategy to Trust

Dedicated L'Refuah Shleimah for Rav Moshe ben Devorah

"Yisrael -- Trust in HaShem, for He is their help and their shield" (Tehillim 115:9).

The first part of the verse addresses us in the now, to "Trust in HaShem." Whereas the second part refers to Yisrael in the third person,  "He is their trust". The intention of the verse is to encourage us to strengthen our trust in HaShem by remembering the countless miracles that He has done for us over the centuries.

Just as He has protected us in the past, so to He will continue to guard Klal Yisrael, now and forever.

Generation after generation, HaShem has consistently overseen and ensured the ongoing existence of Klal Yisrael. Be inspired to trust in HaShem and He will be our "help and shield" so that we survive, thrive, and succeed.
