SF -- The Vibrancy of Sara

"And the life of Sarah was one hundred years and twenty years and seven years." Our Sages comment, "When she was one hundred, she was like twenty regarding sin. Just as a twenty-year-old has no sin because she is exempt from liability in her youth, so too when Sarah was a hundred, she was without sin. All of the years of Sarah's life were equally good." When a person is twenty, they have plenty of energy, but they are not yet fully matured. When they are elderly that have attained wisdom, but they do not have much stamina. Sarah was the exception to the rule. When she was twenty, she had already attained profound enlightenment, which complemented her constant acts of loving-kindness and good deeds. When she was a hundred, not only was she full of wisdom, but she also retained her vibrancy to perform constant acts of loving-kindness and good deeds.

We learn from Sara that we have the inner strength to overcome our challenges, even the flaws of human nature, so that all the days of our lives are replete with perfect goodness.

Follow in the holy footsteps of Sarah to fill all the days of your life with goodness. Strive to acquire wisdom and maturity in your youth to enhance your unabated acts of loving-kindness. And when you are older, grace your understanding and knowledge with vast supplies of loving-kindness, thoughtfulness, and good deeds.

SF -- I Will Show Them Wonders

Dedicated in Honor of Aaron Gittleson for His Support of the Salant Foundation

"Like the days when you left the land of Egypt, I will show them wonders" (Micah 7:15). Klal Yisrael left Egypt on one momentous day, the fifteenth of Nisan. If so, why does this verse state "days" written in the plural tense? The Torah is conveying an essential message to each one of us, in our times. "Egypt" in this verse alludes to the negative impulse, which distracts us from pursuing our spiritual goals. Therefore, the Torah encourages each one of us, every day of our lives, to overcome the influence of "Egypt." Yet, how do we rise to the occasion and free ourselves? Three spiritual weapons empower us to overcome the negative impulse: Torah, prayer, and humility. The higher our commitment to Torah, prayer, and humility, the more HaShem will show us wonders, and help us to succeed in all of our spiritual endeavors!
Each day of our lives, we have the opportunity to awaken great wonders of HaShem, by rising to the challenge and freeing ourselves from "Egypt." We merit this phenomenon by strengthening our devotion to Torah, prayer, and humility.

Envision the great wonders that HaShem performed for Klal Yisrael on the day of their departure from Egypt. Reflect on the verse, "Like the days when you left the land of Egypt, I will show them wonders." Contemplate on the secret message of the verse. Each day of your life, you need to free yourself from "Egypt," the negative impulse. Repeat the verse aloud a few times and internalize its encouraging message. Strengthen your dedication to Torah, prayer, and humility. Be confident that HaShem will perform great wonders for you, every day of your life, and "take you out of the land of Egypt!"

SF -- The Master of the Universe

"The Master of the universe, Who reigned before anything was created" (Adon HaOlam \ Siddur) Our Sages tell us, "There can be no king without a people." Meaning, whom does a king reign over if there are no subjects to rule? In light of this, what is the explanation of the phrase, "HaShem reigned as King before anything was created?" There is a fundamental difference between an earthly king in contrast to HaShem. The kingship of a human king depends on imposing his authority to rule over his subjects. Whereas, HaShem's Kingship is not dependent upon the subjugation of His creations. HaShem is King by nature of His very essence. Regardless of whether or not His creations exist, HaShem alone is the only true King.

HaShem was King before He created the world. HaShem is the King, Who created the universe and reigns eternally supreme over all of His creations.

Reflect on the verse: "The Master of the universe, Who reigned before anything was created." Sing the verse to yourself intending to integrate its meaning into your heart. Sense the awe of standing in the presence of the Eternal King. Rejoice in knowing the holiness, wisdom, power, and kindness of the "Master of the Universe."
May the souls who left this world be remembered for a blessing.
