SF - "Who Is a G-d Like You?" \ Tomer Devorah

SF - "Who Is a G-d Like You?" \ Tomer Devorah
In Blessed Memory of Rebitzen Ellen Fenster
D'var Torah: "Who Is a G-d Like You?" (Michah 7:18). The angels praise HaShem, declaring, "A King Who tolerates insults," even beyond human comprehension. There is nothing hidden from His view. Nor is there a minute when He does not sustain man with His Powers. You will find that man does sin against HaShem, and at the same time, He supports man's existence and grants him the movement of his limbs. You will learn that HaShem holds power over man to paralyze him, as He did to Yeruvam. Yet, in general, HaShem does not withhold His goodness from man. Instead, He tolerates their insults, He grants them power, and He gives them His goodness. "Who Is a G-d Like You?" You have the kindness to give to man according to his goodness. You have the strictness to withdraw from man your goodness. Nevertheless, mercifully, you bear his insult until man repents!

Moral: Patience is an attribute that man needs to acquire, even to the degree that he bears insults. A man who has patience does not withdraw his goodness from his abuser, the recipient of his kindness.

Application: King David tolerated King Saul's obsession to kill him. Even more, King David bore the insult of his son Avshalom, who declared himself to be king. When King David fled from Avshalom, he accepted the abuse of Shimi ben Gera, who threw rocks at him and cursed him. King David merited to embody the fourth leg of the Divine Chariot, on the merit of saying, "HaShem told Shimi ben Gera to curse me."

"The revelation of the Shechinah that dwelt in the Mishkan, was the same revelation of the Shechinah, that Klal Yisrael experienced at Mount Sinai."
D'var Torah: The revelation of the Shechinah (the Divine Presence) that dwelt in the Mishkan, was the same revelation of the Shechinah that Klal Yisrael experienced at Mount Sinai. In this light, HaShem spoke to Moshe in the Mishkan with the same awesome voice and revealed the same glowing holiness that Moshe perceived at Mount Sinai. What was the merit of Klal Yisrael that awakened this supreme holiness and closeness to HaShem in the Mishkan? The verse states (Shemos 25:2), "Speak to the Children of Israel, and have them bring an offering for me, from every person whose heart inspires him, you shall take My offering." They voluntarily brought their offerings of gold and silver to build the Mishkan, as per the verse, "from every person whose heart inspires him..." Their heartfelt inspiration to bring their offerings to build the Mishkan, awakened the glory of the Shechinah of Mount Sinai to dwell in the Mishkan.

Moral: Klal Yisrael donated the materials to build the Mishkan not out of obligation, rather the love of HaShem in their hearts inspired them to bring their offerings. Since they deeply aspired to come close to HaShem, correspondingly, HaShem came intensely close to them.

Application: Imagine that you are standing with Klal Yisrael in the desert. Hear Moshe Rabenu ask the nation to voluntarily donate materials to build the Mishkan. Sense the heartfelt resolve of Klal Yisrael to bring the gold and silver in order to come close to HaShem. Envision yourself and thousands of others joyously bringing the required materials to Moshe Rabenu. Experience the awesome holiness of Mount Sinai that HaShem revealed in the Mishkan.

SF - The Wonders of Digestion \ The Duties of the Heart

SF - The Wonders of Digestion \ Duties of the Heart
"Amongst, the many wonders of HaShem that are found in the body, is the miraculous digestive system."
D'var Torah: Amongst, the many wonders of HaShem that are found in the body, is the miraculous digestive system. Four divergent powers work harmoniously together to perfectly carry out this process in the proper order. Firstly, HaShem creates the esophagus with the power to safely draw the food into the stomach. Secondly, the stomach retains the food in place so that the digestive process can take place. Thirdly, the stomach dissolves the solid food into a liquid, extracts the good elements from the waste, and sends the nutrition to all parts of the body. Lastly, the body efficiently expels the waste so that it does not endanger our health.

Moral: In His unbounded kindness, HaShem oversees the four powers of digestion that our bodies carry our automatically to supply our bodies with good nutrition. If any one of these powers were to fail, G-d forbid, we would be in great danger. How great is the kindness of HaShem, Who performs constant miracles to maintain our health and keep us alive.

Application: Take a moment before or after eating to reflect on the four wonderful powers of digestion. Thank HaShem for providing you with nutritious food, and the miraculous wonder of digestion. Feel the inner joy of recognizing the love and kindness of HaShem, Who safeguards and oversees our life-giving nutrition and the invaluable gift of health.
