SF - Never Give Up \ The Faith of King David

L'Ilui Neshamot Esther Leah bas Yehudah Yoseph and Meira Leah bas Michael

Never Give Up \ The Faith of King David

D'var Torah: "Even if a sharp sword is on your neck, do not give up hope from praying to HaShem!"(Brachot 10a). King Hezkiyahu elected not to bear children because he saw through prophecy that he was destined to have unworthy descendants. HaShem sent Issaiah the Prophet to rebuke Hazkiyahu for not fulfilling the Mitzvah of  bringing children into the world. In no uncertain terms, Issaiah told Hezkiyahu, "Make out your will for you will soon die." King Chezkiyahu rebuffed Ishayahu's fearful message, "Finish your prophecy and get out. I have a tradition from my grandfather, King David, who said, "Even if a sharp sword is on your neck, do not give up hope from praying to HaShem!" King Chezkiyahu cried out to HaShem from the depths of his heart for mercy. HaShem accepted King Chezkuyahu's prayer and rescinded His decreee.

Moral: Faith in HaShem is more powerful than any threat. Even a prophetic warning from HaShem, cannot stand in the face of absloute trust in HaShem.

Application: Reflect on King David's axiom, "Even if a sharp sword is on your neck, do not give up hope from praying to HaShem!" Repeat the words aloud with the intention to strengthen your faith in HaShem, even against all odds. Pray to HaShem in every situation, cry out for mercy, and He will always help you!
(Based on Brachot 10)

SF - Boundless Love \ Tomer Devorah

Boundless Love \ Tomer Devorah

D'var Torah: "Love your friend as you love yourself" (Vayikra 19:18). The Torah envisions a beautiful world of sincere care for every human being. Even more, the verse inspires us to love our friends with the same measure of love that we naturally hold for ourselves. The holy Tomer Devorah reveals the secret of how to detach from  the bonds of human nature so that we are free to love others without boundaries or conditions. Amazingly, Klal Yisrael exists in heaven as one great super soul. Once we attain the awareness that we are all connected like one family, we immediately realize that every other person is as infinitely precious as our own brother or sister. The combined goodness of every member of Klal Yisrael makes us beloved to HaShem. Indeed every one of our fellow Jews is as beloved and cherished, as is our own family.

Moral: Every fellow member of Klal Yisrael is like one of the many invaluable diamonds that collectively form the crown of HaShem, the King of the universe. Just as HaShem loves every member of Klal Yisrael like His own child, so too, the Torah encourages us to love every member of Klal Yisrael like our own family.

Application: Reflect on the verse, "Love your friend as you love yourself." Say it aloud a few times with the intention to instil love in your heart for all fellow members of Klal Yisrael. Visualize your heart as a flower opening  with love for every person. Experience the joy of loving all of our fellow Jews with the same magnitude of love that we have for ourselves. Widen your circle of love to embrace love for all mankind.
(Based on Tomer Devorah, Chapter One, Rav Moshe Cordovero)

SF - The Secret of Positive Thoughts \ Tomer Devorah

The Secret of Positive Thoughts \ Tomer Devorah

D'var Torah: "'I know the thoughts I am thinking about you,' said HaShem, 'thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you a future and hope' (Yermiyahu 29:11). The Torah reveals that HaShem continuously engages in good thoughts and positive contemplations. He mediates on the secrets of the holy Torah, reflects on new dimensions of kindness to bestow upon His creations, and contemplates the good deeds of man. HaShem does not allow any judgement to enter his thoughts, nor does he notice any human flaw, because He is infinitely compassionate.  HaShem contemplates on good thoughts, and at the same time filters any negative notion from entering His mind.

Moral: Just as HaShem's thoughts are always good and positive, so too, man, the Image of HaShem, has the power to always have positive thoughts. Our compassionate soul has the purity to  keep our minds focused on good and constructive thoughts.

Application: Envision Avraham Avinu welcoming guests into his tent. Sense his warmth and see the joy shining on his countenance. Take note how his positive thoughts and loving feelings fill his heart with joy. Transpose Avraham's positive thoughts to your mind, and fill your heart with wisdom, love, and joy.
