SF - Hashem Delights In Kindness

“For HaShem Delights In Kindness” (Micha 7).

There is nothing more beloved to HaShem than acts of loving kindness. HaShem experiences great pleasure, when He sees the good deeds of mankind.

In His infinite mercy, the Holy One, Blessed be He, created a spiritual “safety net” to ensure the continuity of our existence. HaShem assembled a “Palace of Kindness” in Heaven that is occupied by Angels. Whenever a person performs an act of kindness, the Angels store away the kindness in the Palace. Each act of kindness is like a precious jewel in a treasure chest. There are countless “diamonds,” “rubies,” and “emeralds” of kindness collected in this Palace.

When the attribute of judgement is awakened, the Angels quickly show HaShem the sparkling acts of kindness. HaShem is so moved by the beauty of these deeds of loving-kindness that he annuls the judgement because “HaShem Delights In Kindness!”

We can apply this same attribute of “focusing on the positive” in our interpersonal connections. In the sensitive realm of personal relationships, it is human nature to fixate on “past offenses.”

Let us be inspired by HaShem and accustom ourselves to concentrate on the good attributes and deeds of the person, instead of dwelling on his negative side. Make every effort to be appeased of past hurts, and focus on the good aspects and deeds of the person. Reflect on an act of kindness that he did for you or others, consider his good traits, and move your heart to see him in a positive light.

Emulate HaShem’s wonderful attribute “For HaShem Delights In Kindness” and view your friend with graciousness, compassion, and love.

SF - Ask HaShem For a Free Gift

“With my voice I cry out to HaShem, with my voice I ask HaShem for a free gift” (Tehillim 104:2).

With King Saul in hot pursuit, King David hid his 600 men in a cave. Confined to a relatively small area, there was no chance that King Saul would not locate King David’s hiding place. Miraculously, a spider came and wove a web over the entrance of the cave in but a few minutes. Usually, spiders weave their webs very slowly. What was the catalyst that caused this wonder to take place?

King David learned from Moshe Rabenu that there is one prayer that HaShem will always accept — to supplicate to HaShem for a “free gift.”King David considered himself devoid of any special merit or Mitzvah. Instead, he pleaded to HaShem, “With my voice I ask HaShem for a free gift.”

These “code words” penetrated the Heavens and awakened HaShem’s compassion. HaShem sent the spider and it speedily wove its web over the entrance to the cave where King David was hiding with his 600 men.

King Saul saw the spider web and was absolutely positive that King David was not hiding in the that cave.

In fact, he was so sure that the cave was empty that he entered the cave to relieve himself.

King David saw King Saul enter the cave, but King Saul had no idea that King David was in the cave. Unbeknownst to King Saul, King David cut off a piece of his garment.

Subsequently, King David revealed to King Saul that he had cut off a portion of his garment, and he could have easily killed him if he wanted to.

King Saul accepted King David’s words and made peace with King David. He even told King David that Shmuel HaNavi told him that whoever cuts his garment will be the next king, just as King Saul ripped the garment of Shmuel.

Let us cry out to HaShem, may He be blessed, and ask for a “free gift.” HaShem will recognize our utter humilty and answer all of our prayers!

SF - The Source of All

A Kohen who fell on hard times, decided to go abroad to seek a livelihood. One of the responsibilities of a Kohen is to examine people who have tzara'as, a spiritual blemish that manifests as a skin disorder. Before he left his family, he taught his wife the laws of tzara'as in case someone needed an examination. He explained to her that one of the symptoms of tzara'as is found in the hairs of body. "Each strand of hair has a follicle that supplies it with nutrients. A withered strand of hair is a sign of tzara'as because it indicates that the skin below the follicle is dry," he said. "My dear husband," she said, "if HaShem supplies every strand of hair with its own reservoir of nutrients, then surely HaShem will provide you with a livelihood for our family!" She was so strong in her faith that she did not permit him to leave Eretz Yisrael.

When a person is in a financial crunch he needs to change his perspective and strengthen his faith in HaShem. He detaches himself from the distress of the situation by focusing on the kindness of HaShem that permeates the universe and provides for all of His creations. Now with his renewed faith, he is inspired to sincerely trust in HaShem to send him his livelihood.

Reflect on the truth that at this very moment HaShem is supplying life to all of His creations. Be encouraged in knowing that HaShem is our compassionate Father. Rely on HaShem with absolute certainty, as King David said, "The kindness of HaShem surrounds the righteous."
