Connect to Eternal Life \ Parashat Elchanon
"When we attach ourselves to HaShem, He perpetuates our life in this world as well as the eternal World to Come."
D'var Torah: "Only you, the ones who are attached to HaShem, your G-d, are all alive today" (Devarim 4:4). This verse reveals the special advantage that HaShem grants to Klal Yisrael, i.e., "Only you, the ones who are attached to HaShem..." Because of HaShem's great love for us, He gave us the Torah and commandments, which gives us the privilege of attaching ourselves to HaShem. Yet, how is it possible for a human being to attach himself to HaShem, Who is a "consuming fire"? Through our prayer, Torah study, and good deeds, we attach ourselves to HaShem, the very Source of Life. As much as we attach ourselves to HaShem, the Living G-d, so too, HaShem attaches Himself to us. In light of this the verse states, "HaShem, your G-d," meaning, when we attach ourselves to "HaShem," then He becomes "your G-d," and He attaches Himself to you. When we attach ourselves to HaShem, He perpetuates our life in this world as well as the eternal World to Come.

Moral: HaShem, the Eternal, is the sole Source of Life. HaShem grants Klal Yisrael the opportunity to attach ourselves to Him, and receive the invaluable gift of eternal life.

Application: Reflect on the truth that HaShem's most unique quality is that He, alone is the Source of Life. Repeat the verse aloud, "Only you, the ones who are attached to HaShem, your G-d, are all alive today". Each time you chant the verse, internalize its message and attach yourself to HaShem, just as HaShem attaches Himself to you. Rejoice in knowing that HaShem will extend your life in this world, as well as, grant you the ultimate kindness of receiving eternal life in the World to Come.
