D'var Torah: "For you are a holy nation to HaShem, your G-d; for HaShem your G-d has chosen you from all the nations upon the earth." (Devarim ). Just as earthly kings select royal ministers to serve the king, so too, HaShem chose one nation, Klal Yisrael, to attend to the Divine service. The question is: what qualifies Klal Yisrael for this special mission of serving HaShem? It is not because we are the most numerous amongst the nations, for we are, in fact, the smallest of the nations. Rather, the unique quality of Klal Yisrael is our inherent holiness. Indeed, our holy souls emanate from a holy source. In light of this, HaShem charges us with Mitzvot which preserve our holiness, so that we are always worthy to be close to HaShem and serve in His inner most sanctum.
Moral: Just as gold and silver are most precious amongst the metals, so too, the innate holiness of Klal Yisrael elevates us above the other nations, and qualifies us for our special relationship with HaShem.
Application: Take a moment to reflect on your inherent holiness that emanates from your holy and most precious soul. Imagine receiving a special invitation from HaShem to be one of His trusted ministers and serve in His inner sanctum. Strengthen your commitment to Mitzvot so that you are always worthy to stand before HaShem.
