SF - How to Preserve Your Wealth \ Parables of the Ben Ish Chai

How to Preserve Your Wealth \ Parables of the Ben Ish Chai

D'var Torah: There was once a ladder with ten rungs. Even though each rung was exactly the same size, the top rung felt that it was superior to all the rungs below it. Looking down with arrogance at the lower rungs, the top rung called out, "I have been chosen to stand above you. Therefore, I am the greatest and most important rung of all!" At that moment a passerby heard the boasting of the top rung. He reached out and turned the ladder around. The bottom rung felt itself flying to the top, while the top rung found itself falling to the lowest point. When the arrogant rung saw its downfall it regretted its conceit. The lower rung, which was now perched on top, was very careful not to entertain any feelings of pride, so as not to suffer the fate of the prideful rung.

Moral: The ladder in this parable alludes to the dynamics of wealth. From our earthly perspective, it seems money comes to our hands through our own efforts. In truth, every penny that comes to our hands is decreed from Heaven. HaShem, alone, decides who will be rich and who will be poor.

Application: If you are wealthy, remind yourself that it is HaShem Who blessed you with prosperity. By reflecting on this truth, you will maintain a sense of humility and retain your wealth. If you not wealthy, reflect on the fact that it is the decree of HaShem that determines your financial status.

Nunca Desanime !

Sabedoria para o Crescimento Pessoal

À  LUZ  DO  MUSSÁR

                              Shabat Shalom a Todos!

SF - Translate Feelings Into Action \ Parashat Kedoshim

Translate Feelings Into Action \ Parashat Kedoshim

D'var Torah: "Every man shall fear his mother and his father" (Vayikra 19:3). Respect for our parents is one of the most precious and important ideals of our holy Torah. The Talmud asks, "What is implied in the concept "fear of parents"? That one should not sit in his father's chair nor speak in his stead nor contradict his words. And what is implied in the term "honor of parents"? That the child should help his parents to eat and drink (if need be), provide them with clothes, and escort them in and out of the room." (Bava Metzia 32a) The subject of the verse is the Mitzvah to revere one's parents. Yet, the Talmud's explanation refers to specific actions, and doesn't touch on fear at all. The Talmud's approach reveals that all Mitzvot require action. Ony when the reverence is translated into deed is the Mitzvah fulfilled.

Moral: Action is the basic fomat of all Mitzvot. Even Mitzvot of the heart -- like belief and love of HaShem -- must be expressed in deed in order to be fulfilled.

Application: Reflect on the verse, "Every man shall fear his mother and his father". Internalize the message of the verse. Express your feeling of love and respect for your parents through specific and appropriate deeds.
(Based on the commentary of Da'as Torah, Rav Yerucham Levovitz )

SF - HaShem's Special Gift For You \ Sefat Emet

HaShem's Special Gift For You \ Sefat Emet

D'var Torah: "May HaShem send your help from holiness, and may He strengthen you from Zion" (Tehillim 20). This Psalm holds a deep secret concerning the attainment of our personal holiness. The verse starts by saying, "May HaShem send your help from holiness." It seems more accurate to say, "May HaShem send His help from holiness." Rather, the verse states "your help" to reveal a precious lesson. "May He send your help from holiness" implies that HaShem helps each individual person to sanctify and elevate himself. Therefore, the "May HaShem send your help from holiness, implies that HaShem grants eacb one of us a special portion of holiness, i.e., "your help." When does HaShem grant us His gift of holiness? On each and every Shabbat, HaShem illuminates every Jewish person with a "Nishama Yeteira," an additional dimension of holiness that elevates and sanctifies our heart and soul.

Moral: The six days of creation correspond to the natural laws of the universe. Whereas, the holiness of Shabbat is above the natural laws. Shabbat brings the power of renewal to the entire creation, by connecting every member of Klal Yisrael to HaShem, the holy Creator.

Application: Say the verse aloud, "May HaShem send your help from holiness, and may He strengthen you from Zion." Sense the extra dimension of holiness that HaShem grants especially to you on Shabbat.  Reflect on the wonder that HaShem sanctifies you on Shabbat. Enjoy your "Nishama Yeteira," and experience new vistas of holiness, happiness, and closeness to HaShem.
