״As long as the candle is burning it is still possible to repair." Once, as Rabbi Yisrael Salanter was returing home very late at night, he noticed that the shoemaker was still at work. Rabbi Yisrael asked him, "Why are you working so late at night?" The shoemaker replied, "״As long as the candle is burning it is still possible to repair." Rabbi Yisrael gleaned a powerful spiritual message from the simple words of the shoemaker. A burning candle represents the light of the soul. As long as the soul of man is still alive in this world it is still possible for man to improve himself. The purpose of life is character development. Therefore every waking moment of the day is an opportunity for us to repair our character.  Character rectification is not an impossible task. All it takes is effort. As long as we are alive our effort to improve ourselves will bear fruit.   Application: Reflect on the shoemaker's words:  ״As long as the candle is burning it is still possible to repair." Set for yourself a daily time to study Mussar or contemplate on personal growth. Be encouraged by knowing that as long as you are alive you can repair your character traits, just a little more, each and every day. SF - A New Heart

"Elokim, create for me a new heart, and renew a fresh spirit within me"  (Tehilim 51:12).  The heart of man is the spiritual vessel that receives Light and Holiness from HaShem. Due to its great spiritual sensitivity, the heart is also susceptible to impurity. If the heart becomes impure it is not fitting to receive the Divine Light and Holiness. Therefore, the heart needs constant maintenance and preparation to keep it in a state of purity. This sheds light on King David's holy prayer, "Elokim, create for me a new heart, and renew a fresh spirit within me". King David asks HaShem to renew and purify his spirit, so that his heart will be fitting to receive the Divine Light and Holiness. This prayer and preparation will stand for us to ensure a resilient spirit that will not buckle in times of trouble. Our hearts need constant preparation and prayer in order to be in a state of renewal. As a result, our hearts will always be fitting to receive HaShem's Light and Holiness.  Say the verse aloud intending to instill its message into your heart:  "Elokim, create for me a new heart, and renew a fresh spirit within me" Pray to HaShem to renew your spirit so that your heart be a fitting vessel to receive HaShem's Holiness and Light. SF - A Seeker of Goodness

“A person who pursues goodness seeks the Divine will, and the one who pursues bad, it will fall on him.” (Mishlei 11:24) King Solomon reveals a very important life lesson. A person who pursues and initiates acts of goodness towards HaShem’s creations, seeks to fulfill the Divine will. On the merit of his kindness, he will receive many abundant goodly blessings from HaShem. In contrast, one who seeks to harm others, will be the recipient of the very evil that he devised. We are inspired by knowing that one who follows the pursuit of goodness is assured to find favor and many wonderful blessings. HaShem observes the thoughts and actions of man, and repays us according to our chosen paths. Review the verse:  (1) “A person who pursues goodness seeks the Divine will, and the one who pursues bad, it will fall on him.” (2) Take a few moments a consider one good deed you can do today. (3) Plan the best way to initiate your good deed. (4) Put your intention into action. (5) Trust that HaShem will bless you with new dimensions of goodness. SF - The Divine Gifts

"And HaShem said to Moshe, "'Speak to the Kohanim, the sons of Aaron.'" The Kohanim are holy and their Divine service in the Temple is holy. HaShem was concerned that Kohanim might feel a little haughtiness because of their elevated status. Therefore, HaShem asked Moshe to inform the Kohanim that they have not attained their holiness on their own merit. Rather, their holiness stemmed from Aaron, who granted them the merit of holiness. This understanding gave the Kohanim the proper sense of humility.      All spirituality, good character traits, and Torah wisdom are free gifts that HaShem grants to man. The more we are aware of HaShem's grace and kindness in all of our attainments, the more humility we will acquire.  When you say 'Shema Yisrael' reflect on the truth that all of your Torah, Mitzvot, and goodness are free gifts given to you by HaShem. The more you practice this reflection, the more humility you will experience.
