SF - The Virtue of Imperfection

HaShem created all of His creations in a state of incompleteness. In His infinite wisdom HaShem set up the universe in a way that the earthly beings must hope to HaShem to receive their blessings of completeness. Their reliance on HaShem's healing awakens fear because there is always the chance that HaShem may not grant them their required blessings. Yet, the more we understand HaShem's infinite kindness and compassion, the more our fear will give way to pure hope and faith. Just as a baby nurses from his mother with total confidence that his mother will fully sustain him, so too, we hope and trust in HaShem with total confidence that He will grant us the living blessings of spiritual development, holiness, and perfection.

Man shares in the process of his own perfection by placing his full hope and trust in the kindness and compassion of HaShem.

Envision the moon receiving its light from the sun. Reflect on HaShem's unbounded love and infinite compassion. Transform all of your fears into faith and hope that HaShem will repair your flaws and imperfections. Connect to HaShem and receive His blessings, healings, and light -- and become spiritual whole and complete.

SF - The Hidden Aspect of Interpersonal Relations

"Rabbi Eliezer said: Assume the honor that your friend gives to you is as sincere as the honor you give to him." (Avos 2:10) Rabbi Eliezer offers a deep insight into interpersonal relationships. Specifically, he reveals that it is a tendency of human nature to assume that our friends give us less respect than we deserve. We often feel distressed that our friends and family members don't really value us. However, this is a common misconception of the human personality. The truth is just the opposite! Usually our friends hold genuine esteem for us and value our friendship, just as we hold them dear.

The Torah advises us to balance our relationships by consciously realizing and -- reassuring ourselves -- that our friends respect us just as sincerely as we respect them.

Strengthen the quality of your relationships by viewing your family and friends through a positive prism of mutual respect.

Honrando os Amigos!

SF - Honor Your Friends

When Rabbi Eliezer took ill, his students came to visit him. They said,"Our Rabbi, please instruct us on the paths of life so that we merit a share in the eternal World to Come." Rabbi Eliezer answered, "Be careful to honor your friends." Rabbi Eliezer revealed to his disciples that when the students of Torah are united in friendship their Torah learning is pleasing to HaShem. In response to his students request that he show them the path to the World to Come, he shared with them the secret of true Torah, "If you will honor your friends you will be unified, and your Torah will be pleasing to HaShem. Then you will merit a share in the World to Come."

Unity amongst Klal Yisrael is a necessary condition for our Torah to be acceptable in the eyes of HaShem. Mutual respect for each other is the key to attain unity. With proper respect and unity, our Torah will be pleasing to HaShem, and we will earn a share in the World to Come.

Envision Klal Yisrael gathered around Mount Sinai, intent on receiving the Torah. See them attain a perfect state of respect, love, and unity. They are like, "One man, with one heart." May we all respect each other so that we have the required unity to fulfill the Torah, and earn our share in the World to Come.

SF - Love Your Friend As You Love Yourself

The Advantage of Peace \ Pirkei Avot 1

“Love your friend as you love yourself” (Vayikra 19:18)

When people journey across the desert, it is advantageous for them to travel in a caravan. A group of people going together serves to protect them from robbers and thieves.

It is safer to travel in groups, so too, when it comes to our “spiritual travels,” it is beneficial to go in “groups.” In light of this, the Torah teaches us, “Love your friend as you love yourself.” The harmony of friendship protects us from both our physical and spiritual enemies.

Our Sages teach that when Klal Yisrael are at peace with each other, the "spiritual impediment” has no power to stir up adversity amongst them. The Shechinah — the Divine Presence — does not depart from their midsts, even if they “worship idols!”

Our Sages tell us (Avot 1:18), “Hillel said, ‘Be from amongst the students of Aaron; love peace, and pursue peace, love the creations, and draw them close to Torah.’”

Aaron’s particular virtue was that whenever he heard of people who were in disharmony, he would stop his Torah learning and run to make peace between quarreling parties. For instance, neighbors who were caught in an argument, friends who had a dispute, and husband and wife who were at odds with each other.

Let us conduct ourselves with peace and harmony, and fulfill the great precept of the Torah, “Love your friend as you love yourself.” Then HaShem will bless us and grant us lives filled with Shalom, protection, and peace.
