SF - Good Character Traits Is the Key to Personal Happiness

There was once two neighbors, one rich and the other poor. The wealthy one owned vast flocks of cattle and sheep, as well as many vineyards and fields. His table was like a royal banquet and his house was a palace. Despite his luxurious lifestyle, he was thin and unhealthy. His neighbor was a simple craftsman. He did have the means to provide feasts every night for his family. His small house lacked everything but the bare essentials. However, he was robust and healthy, and his countenance always glowed with joy. The wealthy neighbour asked his friend, "Why is it that I am so feeble, while you are so full of vitality and health?" His friend responded, "You have an angry nature. At least ten times a day, you lose your temper with your servants and children. Anger weakens the body and takes a toll on one's health. Also, you have insatiable desires and you are consumed with jealousy and worry. With all of this negativity how could you be healthy? However, I have an easygoing nature and I never get angry. Also, I am happy with whatever portion HaShem grants me. I count my blessings and do not feel any jealousy. Therefore, I have peace of mind, which is the foundation of good health."

Personal happiness is not dependent on one's wealth, but rather on one's good character traits.

Set a time each day for character development. Resolve to avoid all negative traits. Stay even tempered in every circumstance. Experience health both in body and soul. Merit happiness in this world, as well as the eternal World to Come!

SF - The Humility of Aaron HaKohen

When Korach brazenly challenged Aaron's appointment to be Kohen Gadol, "Moshe fell down," deeply concerned over the ramifications of this insurgency. It is interesting to note that there is no mention of Aaron's reaction, whatsoever, to Korach's condemnation of him in the entire Parashah. As a result of his humility and holiness, Aaron accepted Korach's criticism. Aaron agreed that he was, in fact, unworthy and that Korach was far more worthy than he to be the Kohen Gadol. In fact, Korach's arrogance in contrast to Aaron's humbleness, was the very reason why HaShem appointed Aaron, and not Korach, to serve as the Kohen Gadol.
Despite Korach's great wisdom and spiritual powers, his yearning for honor disqualified him to serve as Kohen Gadol. Conversely, Aaron's inner purity and humility is the primary reason that HaShem chose Aharon to be the Kohen Gadol.

Envision Aaron HaKohen hearing Korach's assertion that he, and not Aaron was worth of the Kohunah. Sense how Aaron's holiness and humility prompt him to acknowledge that he is inadequate to be the Kohen Gadol. Emulate Aaron's holiness and humility, and receive HaShem's choicest blessings.

A Vantagem da Imperfeição!

SF - HaShem Is the King

The daily recitation of "Shema Yisrael HaShem Elokenu HaShem Echud" express our deepest expression of HaShem's Kingship over all of His creations. Our Sages reveal that when saying "Echad" -- "HaShem is One" -- it is appropriate to have in mind that HaShem is the King over Heaven, Earth, and the four directions of the Heavens. When we fulfill the Mitzvah of contemplating on HaShem's mastery over the universe when reciting the Shema, HaShem will extend the days and years of our lives!

Just as we take the time to integrate the awareness of HaShem into our hearts, so too, HaShem will extend the time of our days and years.

Envision Yaacov Avinu reciting "Shema Yisrael HaShem Elokenu HaShem Echad." As he says "Echad" he concentrates on acknowledging that HaShem is King of Heaven, Earth, and the four directions of Heaven. Sense how he integrates his awareness of HaShem into the events of the upcoming day. Measure for measure HaShem blesses Yaacov with a long life, as per the verse, "And the years of Yaacov's life were seven years, and forty years, and a hundred years."
