SF - Learn Torah Until It Bursts Into a Flame

There are spiritual lights that are "suspended" over all the letters of the Torah. When a person simply looks at the letters he perceives a simple light, like a glowing coal. However, when he strives to understand the Torah concept, he reads and reviews and reads again. This process of thought strengthens his grasp of the concept. Even more, this method of learning illuminates the lights of the letters, until they are kindled like the flame of a coal. The Mishnah alludes to this phenomenon (Avot 5:22), "Turn it and turn it, because everything is within it." So too, a person needs to contemplate the Torah concepts many times until they ignite, just like a coal that bursts into a flame.

The deep learning of Torah accomplishes two worthy outcomes. One is the understanding of the Torah concept at hand. The other is the revelation of the holy light of the letters to the soul of the person who engages in Torah study.

Envision several glowing coals that burst into a flame. Review your learning until you grasp the concept. Continue to contemplate and review your study. Imagine the words ignite into a spiritual light that illuminates your soul with the Divine Light.

SF - The Joy of Kindness

"Rabbi Yehudah said in the name of Rav: 'Each and every day a Heavenly voice issues from Mount Sinai and proclaims, 'The entire world is sustained on the merit of Chaninah, My son. While Chaninah, himself, suffices himself on a small amount of carob.'" If Rabbi Chaninah's merit sustained the entire world, why did he receive such a little portion? Rabbi Chaninah barely required anything for himself because he lived to bestow kindness to other people. His primary happiness in life came through giving to others. Since Rabbi Chaninah ben Dosa emulated the kindness of HaShem so perfectly, he merited to be the blessing of sustenance for the entire world.

The golden attribute of bestowing good to others is the key to all success. The more we dedicate ourselves to perform acts of kindness, the more we will be beloved by mankind and Heaven.

Envision Rabbi Chaninah ben Dosa granting kindness and care to everyone around him. See him act with friendliness and goodness to his family, friends, and neighbors. Imagine how his love of goodness awakens intense joy in his heart, and opens the gates of success.

SF - Spirituality Is a Free Gift From HaShem

"And HaShem said to Moshe, "'Speak to the Kohanim, the sons of Aaron.'" The Kohanim are holy and their Divine service in the Temple is holy. HaShem was concerned that Kohanim might feel a little haughtiness because of their elevated status. Therefore, HaShem asked Moshe to inform the Kohanim that they have not attained their holiness on their own merit. Rather, their holiness stemmed from Aaron, who granted them the merit of holiness. This understanding gave the Kohanim the proper sense of humility.

All spirituality, good character traits, and Torah wisdom are free gifts that HaShem grants to man. The more we are aware of HaShem's grace and kindness in all of our attainments, the more humility we will acquire.

When you say Shema Yisrael' reflect on the truth that all of your Torah, Mitzvot, and goodness are free gifts given to you by HaShem. The more you practice this reflection, the more humility you will experience. Once you acquire the true sense of humility, you have the foundation of all good character traits.
