SF - The Profound Impact of Positivity

"Don't those who devise evil go astray? But kindness and truth shall be established for those who devise good" (Mishlei 14"22).

In this passage, King Solomon reveals the power of thoughts, both positive and negative.

A person who conspires against others has "gone astray" in his thoughts. He believes the more he conjures up images of the other person failing, the closer his thoughts will come to fruition.

He is making a magnitude mistake! HaShem knows all of his thoughts and reverses the negative energy. His dark plans will eventually boomerang upon himself. For instance, Haman was obsessed with killing Mordecai. Ultimately, Haman was hung on the very gallows he built for Mordecai.

Conversely, a person who engages in pleasant thoughts towards others will see "kindness and truth." His positive thoughts will draw the kindness of HaShem upon him, and HaShem will bless him with the very good that he hoped for his friend. What's more, the good thoughts that he wished for his friend will be actualized and established as "truth." The positive thoughts will blossom with goodness both for him and his friend.

As human beings, it can be challenging to maintain positive thoughts. Yet once we realize the tremendous benefit -- for ourselves as well as our friends -- we will be inspired to energize our minds with good thoughts.

Positive thoughts will permeate both our lives as well the lives of our friends with unbounded kindness and fill our souls with joy, peace, and goodness.

SF - Moshe's Quick Thinking

Moshe Rabenu grasped the essence of the sin of the golden calf and aligned his thinking with HaShem. Our Sages of blessed memory, likened Moshe Rabenu's breaking the Tablets of Stone to a fitting parable. There was a nobleman who asked his messenger to marry him to a fine woman of good deeds. He found the perfect wife and married them. Subsequently, she had an affair. The messenger said, "If I say that they were married before she had an affair, she will be forbidden to my master, forever. It is better that I should annul the marriage from the beginning." So too, Moshe Rabenu said, "I have charged them with Mitzvot that make them liable for serving other deities. Better that I should annul the "marriage" from the beginning."

There is always a foolish side to sin. We can call it the voice of the Negative Impulse. Moshe Rabenu recognized this factor and wisely annulled the "marriage" to allow Klal Yisrael to reunite with HaShem.

We need to revisit Moshe Rabenu's breaking the Tablets of Stone at the time of the sin of the golden calf. He was relating to the foolish side of sin. He wisely determined that it is preferable to annul the "marriage" rather than to forbid Klal Yisrael to HaShem, forever. Let us utilize Moshe Rabenu's strategy and preserve our relationship with HaKodesh Baruch Hu.

SF - Klal Yisrael's Secret Weapon

"When you draw near to the battle, the Kohen, shall come near and speak to the people. 'Hear O Israel, today you are approaching the battle against your enemies. Do not be faint-hearted, you shall not fear, you shall not be alarmed, and you shall not be terrified because of them. For HaShem, your G-d, is the One, Who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.'"

The phrase "Hear O Israel" in this verse alludes to the recitation of "Shema Yisrael HaShem Elokenu HaShem Echad." The Torah advises the Jewish army to recite the "Shema," the declaration of the Divine Unity, when they go into battle. Reciting the "Shema" awakens the merit of Klal Yisrael, whom accept upon themselves the Divine Unity every day. As a result, Klal Yisrael will be saved from many troubles and calamities. HaShem conveys to them, 'Even if the recitation of the "Shema," morning and evening, is the only Mitzvah that you fulfill, it will suffice to protect you from your enemies.'

The Torah shields and saves Klal Yisrael. The recitation of "Shema" is always on our lips. Therefore it suffices as the merit that shields us and saves us in times of trouble.

(1) Reflect on the truth that the "Shema Yisrael" prayer is the most powerful weapon in the arsenal of Klal Yisrael. (2) When you engage in "life's battles," recite: "Shemah Yisrael HaShem Elokenu Hashem Echad." (3) Be encouraged by the awareness that the declaration of the Divine Unity will merit you -- and all Klal Yisrael -- with HaShem's protection and deliverance.
