SF - The Honor of Parents

"Every man shall fear his mother and his father" (Vayikra 19:3). Respect for our parents is one of the most precious and important ideals of our holy Torah. The Talmud asks, "What is implied in the concept "fear of parents"? That one should not sit in his father's chair nor speak in his stead nor contradict his words. And what is implied in the term "honor of parents"? That the child should help his parents to eat and drink (if need be), provide them with clothes, and escort them in and out of the room." (Bava Metzia 32a) The subject of the verse is the Mitzvah to revere one's parents. Yet, the Talmud's explanation refers to specific actions, and doesn't touch on fear at all. The Talmud's approach reveals that all Mitzvot require action. Ony when the reverence is translated into deed is the Mitzvah fulfilled.   Action is the basic format of all Mitzvot. Even Mitzvot of the heart -- like belief and love of HaShem -- must be expressed in deed in order to be fulfilled.  Reflect on the verse, "Every man shall fear his mother and his father". Internalize the message of the verse. SF - Love Your Friend As You Love Yourself

""Love your friend like you love yourself." (Vayikra 19:18) The verse expresses the wonderful ideal to love others with same love that we love ourselves. When we share our wisdom and material possessions with others, we follow the holy way of loving kindness. Still, even when we love others, it is natural to love ourselves more than we love our friends. The Torah instructs to to go beyond human nature, and love other people with the same love that we hold for ourselves.  There are no boundaries in love. Just as we want the very best for ourselves, the Torah elevates us to love, give, and want the very best for our friends. Imagine that you have a key that opens your heart to love others with the same magnitude of love that you love yourself. Envision using the key to unlock your heart. Feel the joy of your love expanding and increasing until your entire heart is filled with unbounded love for others.  (Based on the commentary of the Ramban and Da'as Torah)  Donate ‌ May the souls who left this world be remembered for a blessing. Even the enemy that arises against, is orchestrated by HaShem in order to demonstrate to us that He always oversees and protects Klal Yisrael.
