SF - The Power of Music

Happiness and spirituality compliment each other, like perfect soul mates. A person taps into his spiritual powers by consciously awakening joy within his soul. The more inner joy a person attains, the more holiness and purity he experiences. For instance, when Elisha HaNavi wanted to attain prophecy, he requested a minstrel to play for him. The sweet music uplifted his soul with happiness, joy, and positive thoughts. In this way, he elevated his heart and soul to come close to HaShem and receive a prophecy.

We enhance our holiness by attaining a joyful state of mind before we engage in the Mitzvot.

Stimulate joy in your heart before you do a Mitzvah. For instance, listen to a beautiful song, or reflect on the miracles of the Exodus, before you pray. Perform the Mitzvah while your heart is filled with joy and experience new levels of holiness and closeness to HaShem.

SF - The Great Reward of Our Generation

Yisrael attained peak spirituality when they received the Torah at Mount Sinai. Each successive generation after Sinai becomes a little more spiritually diminished. Nevertheless, since the challenges of the later generations are far more difficult, HaShem greatly rewards their efforts to uphold the Torah. Amazingly, HaShem considers the encumbered later generations as even greater than earlier generations, who were like living-angels. In the same light, in the generation prior to the arrival of the Meshiach, the world will be cast in spiritual darkness. The member of the Jewish people, who fulfill the Torah, despite the awesome impediments and impurity of our times, are the true spiritual heroes. Indeed, the merit of Klal Yisrael who uphold the Torah and Torah values in these challenging times, will awaken HaShem's compassion and bring the final redemption.

A person who starts off on a low spiritual level, and overcomes his inner being by transforming himself to pure goodness, exercises the true power of free choice. He merits the highest spiritual reward.

Envision Avraham Avinu living in a society of idol-worshippers, devoid of all awareness of HaShem. Each day Avraham strengthens his faith in HaShem. Avraham Avinu emulates the kindness of HaShem, and spreads the knowledge of HaShem to the entire world. HaShem blesses Avraham with the ultimate dimension of joy and reward. Strive to uplift yourself just a little more each and every day, and bring the redemption.

SF - The Compassion of King David

What would you say is the single most important trait required for a Jewish leader? King David was a shepherd when he was a young man. It was his practice to carry the sheep on his shoulders when he took them to drink from the stream or graze in the meadow. HaShem was very pleased with David's tender care for the sheep. He saw that David had the sensitivity to be a good leader for Klal Yisrael. In this light, HaShem said: "David will certainly have compassion on My children and lead them with goodness and helpfulness."

Compassion is the most important criteria for a Jewish leader.

(1) Take a few minutes to open your heart with compassion and care for all of HaShem's creations. (2) Reflect on the people in your life, and awaken your compassion, sensitivity, and love for them. (3) Take specific actions to help, encourage, and uplift them.
