SF - The World Stands On Three Things

"Rabban Shimon ben Gamliel said, 'The world stands on three ideals: on justice, and on truth, and on peace.'" In a enlightening revelation of wisdom, the Torah defines the three integral components that form the foundation of a healthy family, society, and world. "Justice" is rendered by wise and moral courts, "truth" is found when people are honest and do not lie to each other, and "peace" prevails when it exists both between nations as well as in interpersonal relationships.

The commitment to treat each other with moral clarity, integrity, and peace are the building blocks of creating a good world that is morally sound and safe.

Make every effort to treat all people fairly and compassionately; always speak truthfully; and strive to be at peace with every person and in every situati on .

SF - Love Is the Essence of Spirituality

The essence of spirituality is reflected in a person whose entire being resonates with the precious attribute of love. The joy of his love permeates his every feeling, thought, and deed. In this light, Rabbi Akiva said that the great principle of the Torah is, "Love your friend like you love yourself." This teaching reveals the secret of attaining the golden virtue of love. HaShem plants a wellspring of love in our hearts. We sense this inherent love in our affection for our family and friends. The Torah advises us to awaken our hearts to love other people "naturally" the same way that we naturally "love ourselves."

Love is the essential attribute of man, who is created in the "image of HaShem." Each day gives us the opportunity to intensify and broaden the love within our hearts. The Torah wisely advises us to love others by awakening love in our hearts, just as naturally as we love ourselves.

Envision the love that Avraham Avinu has for all mankind. Imagine being in his presence and experiencing his warmth, care, and love. As you speak to your friend, consciously awaken the love in your heart for him. Open and expand your heart and feel love, warmth, and compassion for all of your family and friends.

SF - Soar to the Heavens!

The purification process for tza'arat -- a spiritual disorder caused by slanderous speech -- requires two birds. The person who spoke disparagingly is required to bring two birds to the Temple. The Kohen (Priest) performs a ceremony with one bird which renders atonement for the person who spoke negatively about his friend. This process motivates the person to eliminate improper speech and to correct his character. The second bird is set free to fly off to "an open field." The flight of the bird symbolizes that man can soar out of the pitfalls of human nature and ascend to a life of purity and goodness.

Regardless of our actions, HaShem always gives us the opportunity to renew, rejuvenate, and uplift ourselves.

Envision the bird being released by the Kohen. See him soar to the heights and land in an open field, teeming with life. Imagine that you are that bird. See yourself soar above human nature and ascend to holiness and purity. Experience the joy of forgiveness and personal redemption.
