HaShem Does Not See Our Shortcomings

“HaShem does not see iniquity in Yaakov” (Bamidbar 23:21).

This verse reveals a joyous secret. HaShem protects Klal Yisrael, in general, from committing any immoral act. What’s more, even if they stray from rational thought and commit a sin, the impurity of the misdeed is not etched into their soul.

King Solomon expressed this concept in Shir HaShirim (4), “You will be completely beautiful, My beloved, and no blemish will be in you.” The misdeed will not make a permanent blemish. Instead, it will be manifest as dirt that is easily washed away.

Yet, the Zohar tells us that whenever a person commits a misdeed the spirit of impurity impacts his being. If so, how is Klal Yisrael protected from the impurity of sin?

The Torah states, “You who are attached to HaShem, are alive, all of you, today” (Devarim 4:4).

HaShem considers Klal Yisrael like the “wick” and the Holy Shechinah like the “flame.” The fire of HaShem immediately burns away all our impurity. Once the impurity is burnt away by HaShem, we remain attached to HaShem and merit to be “alive, all of you, today!”

May we be inspired by knowing that “HaShem does not see iniquity in Yaacov.” And may this profound insight spark us to attain higher levels of spiritual elevation, goodness, and joy.

May the souls who left this world be remembered for a blessing.
