We read in the Hagadah, "In each generation, a person must envision himself as if he were liberated from Egypt." How do we fulfill this principle in light of the fact that we were never slaves in Egypt?
The generation that HaShem liberated from Egypt was the lowest generation in the history of Klal Yisrael. On the material level, they were pitiful slaves, and spiritually they had descended to the lowest level of impurity.
Nevertheless, HaShem, in His great compassion, lifted them on "eagles wings." Indeed, they became the greatest generation that ever lived, and only they are referred to as dor de'ah, "The Wise Generation."
In light of this, our Sages instruct us to "envision ourselves as if we were liberated from Egypt." We should make the following inference: if HaShem elevated the lowest generation to the highest heights, surely HaShem will raise us, who are neither slaves nor idol worshippers, to the level of our Holy Patriarchs.
On Seder night, we remember all the Miracles that HaShem performed for Klal Yisrael when He took us out of Egypt. This reflection will electrify our spirits with a renewed conviction and confidence that we can reach the Holiness and Purity of our Patriarchs.
