The Banner of Love
When Hashem revealed Himself at Mount Sinai, He was accompanied by twenty-four thousand angels. Upon witnessing this awe-inspiring sight, Klal Yisrael cried out, "If only we could also attain such closeness to Hashem!" In response, Hashem said, "Because you long to be like the angels, I will fulfill your desire."
At that moment, Hashem revealed His deep love and instructed Moshe, "Arrange them in encampments around Me." This is the beauty described in Shir HaShirim (2:4): "He brought me into the banquet hall, and His banner over me was love." The key to spiritual elevation lies in our yearning; when we long for closeness, Hashem opens the gates of intimacy.
Awaken your heart to draw near to His light, holiness, and joy. Aspire to the lofty heights of the angels, and you will "flourish like a palm tree in the courtyards of Hashem."
### The 3-Step Journey to Closeness
1. 🔥 Sacred Envy Witnessing the celestial heights of the angels, the soul awakens with a holy desire. This "envy" is the catalyst—it is the realization that we are meant for more than the mundane.
2. ⛺ Divine Alignment Hashem responds to our yearning by giving us structure. By arranging the encampments, He shows us that there is a specific place for every soul to dwell in His presence, protected by His "Banner of Love."
3. 🌴 Spiritual Flourishing When we align our desires with His light, we no longer observe the angels from afar. We begin to flourish from within, growing tall and strong like a palm tree in the inner courtyards of the Divine.
### Summary
Based on Midrash Tanchuma, this teaching reveals that the structure of the Jewish encampments was a direct response to our desire for angelic closeness. Our spiritual "rank" is determined by the intensity of our yearning; when we sincerely long for Hashem, He transforms that desire into a reality of profound intimacy and exalted presence.
