🎁 The Joy of Giving | Parashat Re'eh

Two distinct aspects comprise the mitzvah of giving charity:

🪙 The Action: The tangible gift or financial aid provided.

💖 The Emotion: The genuine happiness and joy of the giver in helping another.

The Torah explicitly emphasizes the vital importance of the giver's state of mind:

"You shall surely give him, and not let your heart feel bad when you give..." (Devarim 15:10)

⚖️ Two Paths in Giving

💔 Giving with Hesitation

Some people give charity, yet struggle deeply over parting with their money. Although the funds are delivered, they lack an open, generous heart (Rashi). Because they feel troubled by the act, they often delay issuing the funds.

💝 Giving with Joy

In contrast, a good-hearted person gives generously, immediately, and with a full heart.

🌊 The Essence of Divine Kindness

The desire to give is the foundation of Divine kindness.

✨ Unbounded Flow: The kindness of HaShem (Chesed) flows forth continuously without limitations—like the powerful current of a mighty river, constantly growing and expanding.

🍽️ Constant Sustenance: As expressed in Birkat Hamazon (Grace After Meals):"Through His great goodness, we have never lacked."

The Torah reveals that the primary component of giving is not merely the monetary transaction, but the inner joy and genuine desire to help others wholeheartedly.
