In HaShem's unbounded compassion, we emerge from Yom Kippur, fresh and pure, like a newborn child. Moreover, HaShem recognizes the great effort that we make to perform our repentance. As a result, He awakens new levels of love upon us and elevates us to the highest level of Gan Eden. Moral: The awareness of the light, love, and forgiveness that HaShem reveals to us on Yom Kippur, makes it the happiest day of the year. Application: Envision the Cohen Gadol (High Priest) emerging from the Holy of Holies, after completing his service on Yom Kippur. See his countenance shining with joy and holiness. Imagine hearing Hashem saying to you and all Klal Yisrael, "I forgive you and cleanse all of your misdeeds. You are a new creation." We make our best effort on Yom Kippur to renew ourselves. We also know that in years past we ascend to new spiritual heights on Yom Kippur, only to revert to our previous condition. What can we do to retain the progress we work so hard to attain? There are two parts to fruitful repentance. One is to abandon our negative behavior, i.e., "Depart from evil." The second is to initiate new affirmative action, "Do good." The second part is even more important than the first one! We need to balance our effort to grow by activating new positive habits. Our positive energy gives us the courage to master our attempt to change. Moral: Uprooting negative behavior is an effort to overcome the base aspects of human nature. At the same time, it is imperative to stimulate our spiritual strengths by initiating a positive response. We persist in the power of good until the good overcomes the bad. Application: Envision Avraham Avinu living in a world of idol worship and devoid of loving-kindness. See him reject both of these negative behaviors, and replace them with belief in HaShem and acts of loving-kindness. Imagine Avraham enlightening all of humankind with faith in HaShem and the goodness of loving-kindness. The Perfect Circle of Life \ Parashat Vayeilech "All of their deeds and everything they have, even their days and years, are all a perfect circle ". D'var Torah: "Moshe said to them, 'I am one hundred and twenty years old today" (Devarim 31:2). Meaning, "'Today' is the exact day that my years have become complete. On this very day (the seventh of Adar) I was born, and on this day I will die." In light of this, the verse says, "HaShem knows the days of the wholehearted" (Tehillim 37:18). Just as they are wholehearted, so too, their years are whole. HaShem grants full years from the day of their birth to the day of their death. Just as a perfect circle is perfectly round, so too, the tzadikim have no "rough edges." All of their deeds and everything they have, even their days and years, form a perfect circle of goodness.      Moral: The perfection of a tzadik is his wholehearted love for HaShem and all of His creations. Therefore, the tzadik relates to every being with love, peace, and joy. Just as his love is whole, so too, HaShem blesses him with whole years. Application: Envision the joyous countenance of Moshe Rabenu. He has no contention with any man. All the days of his life are filled with love, peace, and joy. He loves HaShem and all of His creations. HaShem grants him a full one hundred and twenty years, in accordance with his pure and unadulterated wholeheartedness.
