SF - A Comforting Message \ Parashat Bo

A Comforting Message \ Parashat Bo
"Thankfully, the Torah comforts us with HaShem's guarantee to protect the Children of Israel in the end of days."
D'var Torah: "It is a night in which HaShem guarded them to take them out from the land of Egypt; this night HaShem guards the Children of Israel throughout their generations" (Shemos 12:42). The Torah mentions HaShem's guarding the Children of Israel twice in this verse. The first guarding refers to HaShem's protection of the Children of Israel when the deadly plague struck every firstborn Egyptian at midnight. The second guarding of the Children of Israel refers to the future redemption. The Torah prophetically tells us that HaShem will protect the Children of Israel during the turbulent events prior to the Messianic era.

Moral: The uncertainty of what will take place in "the end of days" is unsettling. Thankfully, the Torah comforts us with HaShem's guarantee to protect the Children of Israel in the end of days. Just as He protected us in the time of mortal danger in Egypt, so too, HaShem will protect and shield the People of Israel at the time of the future redemption.

Application: Sense the joy the Children of Israel experienced in Egypt at midnight when HaShem spread His wings of protection over them, saving them from death. Be comforted in knowing that HaShem will again spread His wings of protection over us at the time of our final redemption, just as miraculously as He did in Egypt. HaShem will reveal His love to Klal Yisrael, and He will protect, save, and redeem His beloved Children of Israel.

SF - Redemption Now \ Parashat V'eirah

Redemption Now \ Parashat V'eirah
"HaShem can deliver us this very second."
D'var Torah: "For now, I could have sent My hand and stricken you and your people with a plague, and you would have been obliterated from the earth" (Shemot 9:15). These fiery words convey an ominous warning to Pharoah. "For now," implies that HaShem has the power to annihilate Egypt in an instant. We might wonder, after some 2,000 years of a very difficult exile, how could we expect a sudden redemption? The above verse expresses a resounding response to this concern! HaShem, the Master of the universe, is all-powerful. In a split second, HaShem will bring the light of redemption and neutralize all the enemies of Israel. HaShem's love of Klal Yisrael and His supreme dominion makes it very clear that HaShem can deliver us this very second.

Moral: Our long exile is no reason to entertain doubt in our faith. Be encouraged by knowing that HaShem has the power to save us from all of our troubles instantaneously.

Application: Review the verse, "For now, I could have sent My hand and stricken you and your people with a plague, and you would have been obliterated from the earth." Sense the power of HaShem to obliterate the enemies of Israel immediately. Be encouraged by knowing that HaShem has the Mastery to bring the Geula Shleimah, the Final Redemption, right NOW. Expect HaShem's sudden redemption!

SF - The Double Reward for Charity \ The Proverbs of King Solomon

The Double Reward for Charity \ Proverbs of King Solomon
"In His infinite mercy and kindness, HaShem divides an act of charity into two parts."
D'var Torah: "One who is gracious to the poor has lent to HaShem, and He will pay him his reward" (Mishlei 19:17). HaShem credits a person who gives charity with two good deeds. Firstly, HaShem acknowledges that the giver relinquished some of his funds to his friend. In light of this, HaShem considers our act of charity as it we lent money to Him, Himself! There is no question that HaShem will reimburse the "debt." Hence the opening of the verse, "One who is gracious to the poor has lent to HaShem." Secondly, HaShem recognizes that the giver's kindness helped his friend overcome a difficult situation. HaShem will exceedingly reward us for the kindness and benefit that we bestowed upon our friend. As per the closing of the verse, "He will repay him his reward."

Moral: In His infinite mercy and kindness, HaShem divides an act of charity into two parts of goodness. Therefore, HaShem repays the outlay of a person who gives charity; and also rewards him for his act of kindness.

Application: Be confident that HaShem will compensate you for all the charity that you give as well as reward you for rescuing your friend.
