Beloved Is Man to HaShem \ Encouragement

״חביב אדם שנברא בצלם״

“Rabbi Akiva said, 'Beloved is man, for he was created in HaShem's likeness. An additional dimension of HaShem's love for man is revealed through HaShem making known to man the he was created in His likeness, as it says, 'For in the likeness of HaShem He made man.'" (Pirkei Avot 3:18)

D'var Torah: Rabbi Akiva reveals the two primary confirmations that man is beloved to HaShem. (1) Beloved is man for he was created in HaShem's likeness, and (2) an even greater dimension of HaShem's love for man is that HaShem revealed to man the he was created in His likeness. Could anything be sweeter -- or more significant -- than knowing that we are inherently and unconditionally loved by HaShem? The revelation of HaShem's love of man is a precious gift. The game-changing knowledge of HaShem's wondrous love for us must be the primary focus of our life. Even more, the awareness of HaShem's love for us is the true source of self-worth, contentment, and joy.

Moral: The awareness of HaShem's unbounded love for us inspires us to realize our incredible potential, and motivates us to be true to our good and holy essence.

Application: (1) Reflect on HaShem's love for you for one continuous minute. (2) Consider that HaShem's love for man surpasses the love the He has for all of His other creations. (3) Love yourself with the same enormous measure of love that HaShem showers upon you. (4) Honor HaShem by being the best person you can be.
