Recognizing that this pace was unsustainable, Yisro advised Moshe to appoint a hierarchy of judges to share the burden. Moshe recognized the profound truth in this advice: leadership is not about doing everything yourself, but about creating the space for others to grow. By sharing the responsibility of judgment, Moshe inspired a new generation of leaders to develop their own Torah wisdom and communal sensitivity. The Leadership Lesson Based on the insights of Rav Shimshon Pinkus, we see that delegation is a fundamental act of faith in others. The Gift of Responsibility: When a leader holds onto every task, the people around him remain spectators. When a leader delegates, he transforms spectators into participants. Practical Exercise: Building Others Up 1. Identify an Opportunity Look at your current responsibilities—at home, at work, or in the community. Identify one task that could be handled by someone else who is looking to grow. 2. Hand Over the Reins Clearly explain the task and the goal, but allow the other person the freedom to use their own creativity and judgment. Trusting them with the "how" is just as important as trusting them with the "what." 3. Provide Constructive Support Offer guidance without hovering. After the task is complete, highlight the specific strengths they demonstrated. This recognition reinforces their growth and prepares them for the next challenge.
