SF - The Most Beloved Mitzvah \ Chanukah Edition

The Most Beloved Mitzvah \ Chanukah Edition
"The Mitzvah of lighting the Chanukah lights is a very beloved Mitzvah."
D'var Torah: The Rambam writes, “The Mitzvah of lighting the Chanukah lights is a very beloved Mitzvah.” In light of the fact that the Rambam does not say this regarding any other Mitzvah, it is imperative to unearth the unique quality of kindling the Chanukah Menorah. The Torah tells us that Klal Yisrael enjoys the status of HaShem loving us as His very children. The Talmud raises the question: does HaShem loves us as His children only when we are complicit with the Torah? Or does HaShem love us unconditionally; I.e., regardless of whether or not we uphold the Torah? The Talmud concludes that HaShem does in fact love Klal Yisrael unequivocally, even if we stray far from His path. During the time of the Greeks, most of Klal Yisrael fell to the influence of the pagan Greeks, and remained unrepentant. A minority of Klal Yisrael, lead by the Chashmonayim, held valiantly to Torah dedication. Even though a great number amongst Klal Yisrael rebelled against HaShem, HaShem revealed His unconditional love for us by performing the great miracles of Chanukah. The revelation of HaShem’s unequivocal love for Klal Yisrael, makes the observance of Chanukah especially beloved to the Jewish People.

Moral: Just as parents love their children unconditionally, HaShem, the Merciful Father of Klal Yisrael loves us unconditionally.

Application: As you kindle the Chanukah lights contemplate on HaShem’s unconditional love for Klal Yisrael. Reflect on the amazing miracles that HaShem performed for Klal Yisrael even though the majority of people were steeped in heathen practices. Close your eyes and open your heart to feel the unabated love and compassion that HaShem holds for you. Rejoice in receiving HaShem’s unequivocal love every second of your existence.

SF - Spiritual Warfare \ The Arizal on Chanukah

Spiritual Warfare \ The Arizal on Chanukah
"The eight days of Hanukah always includes a Shabbos and Rosh Chodesh."
D'var Torah: The Divine Wisdom of the Torah connects us to HaShem and lifts us beyond the limitations of the natural order. The Greeks professed that the world runs according to nature and that there is no spiritual realm. They tried to deprive us of our spiritual powers by imposing cruel decrees aimed at eliminating Torah observance. How did we win this religious war? The eight days of Hanukah always includes a Shabbos, and Rosh Chodesh. Also, the eight days of the festival alludes to Bris Milah, which we observe on the eighth day after birth. Shabbos refers to the sanctification of Klal Yisrael. Rosh Chodesh refers to the sanctification of time. Bris Milah refers to the sanctification of the physical body. Our determination to fight for the holiness of Torah observance overcame our stubborn enemies and awakened the great miracles of Hanukah.

Moral: The sanctification of the Jewish People through Shabbos observance, the sanctification of time through Rosh Chodesh, and the sanctification of the body through Bris Milah enriches our spiritual powers and opens the channels of Divine Intervention.

Application: Strengthen your observance of one Mitzvah, good deed, or Torah study. As you strengthen your devotion, draw yourself closer to HaShem. Awaken the compassion of HaShem to bless you with holiness and light. Reflect on the countless miracles of HaShem that flow into your life, granting you spiritual elevation, success, and joy.

SF - Yoseph's Vision of Peace \ Parashat Mekeitz

Yoseph's Vision of Peace \ Parashat Mekeitz
"A positive outlook will always result in a positive outcome."
D'var Torah: "And Yoseph said to Pharaoh, "It is not me; it is HaShem Who will give Pharaoh peace." Yoseph did not want to take any credit for interpreting Pharaohs's dreams. Therefore, he humbly expressed to Pharaoh that HaShem, alone, reveals the meaning of dreams. Yoseph hinted that HaShem sent the dream too Pharaoh to inspire him to take precautions in the light of the impending famine. He mentioned "peace" because he wanted to reassure Pharoah that he should not be distressed over the unsettling dream. Yoseph always hoped for peace and he was optimistic that he would give a peaceful interpretation. Yoseph, sought to offer a positive interpretation of Pharoah's dreams, because since Pharaoh was was the leader it would impact the lives of so many people. Additionally, Yoseph felt the Divine Presence illuminating his soul, so he was confident that his Divinely inspired interpretation would comfort and encourage Pharaoh.

Moral: A positive outlook results in a positive outcome.

Application: Envision Yoseph standing in front of Pharaoh. See the light of the Shechinah shining on his countenance. Hear him assure Pharaoh that he will deliver a positive interpretation of his dreams. Even more, he will console Pharaoh and restore his peace of mind. Approach all of your relationships with a purely positive outlook, and hope for positive outcomes.

SF - The Catalyst of Miracles \ Chanukah Edition

The Catalyst of Miracles \ Chanukah Edition
"One spark of trust in HaShem in the hearts of Klal Yisrael destroys the most formidable foe."
D'var Torah: The unprecedented miracles of Hanukah proved without a trace that HaShem has special favor for Klal Yisrael. An ancient parable reveals the secret that awakened the extraordinary miracles of Chanukah. A flax merchant entered the town with his camels laden with flax. The blacksmith wondered, "Where will all this flax be stored?" A clever man answered, "One spark from your bellows will burn it all up." Flax is highly combustible because it is filled with air. So too, the Greeks infiltrated into Eretz Yisrael with a powerful and massive army. "How can we conquer them?" someone asked. A wise man answered, "As formidable as they seem, they have no real power. One spark of trust in HaShem utterly consumes the Greek army."

Moral: The enemies of Israel are "highly combustible." One spark of trust in HaShem in the hearts of Klal Yisrael destroys the most formidable foe.

Application: Reflect on the remarkable miracles of Chanukah. As you light the Menorah, envision that you are kindling the flame of faith in your heart. See the spark of faith of Klal Yisrael burst out and consume all of our enemies. Experience the joy, holiness, and light of the final redemption.
