The Secret of Long Life \ Ahavat Yisrael D'var Torah: When the Sages asked Rabbi Zera why he merited to live to such a ripe old age, he responded, "I never showed any strictness with my family." It is amazing that Rabbi Zera, with all the possible stressful situations at home, always kept a calm and pleasant demeanor! His pleasantness, gentleness, and sensitivity created a family atmosphere filled with peacefulness, love, and joy. His mastery over his emotions merited him many sweet and productive years of life. Just as he enhanced the quality of life of his family, so too, HaShem extended his life with many good and peaceful years. Moral: Staying calm in the face of family challenges, keeps life at home consistently pleasant and grants one HaShem's blessing for a long life.
Application: Make peace and pleasantness in your home the top priority. Prepare yourself to always go easy. "Roll with the punches" when dealing with your family. Show them unbounded love, patience and pleasantness -- and enjoy the blessings of peace, joy, and longevity. (Based on Megillah 28a)
The Salant Foundation is currently looking for a Shul or community to partner with us in sharing the merit of the unique and important Salant Kollel. There are practical and easy ways (such as adoptakollel.org) to create a special mutual relationship between the Kollel and a Shul or community. If you think your Shul or community or workplace might want to participate in supporting the Salant Kollel, please contact Rabbi Zvi Miller at salantorg@gmail.com, and we will discuss how to implement your idea. Thank you! |
