The Blessings of Benefitting HaShem's Creations \
Parashat Ki Tzeizei
"So that it should be good for you, and you shall lengthen your days" (Ki Tzeitzei 22:8).
D'var Torah: "When you come upon a bird's nest...You shall send away the mother bird, and you may take the young for yourself, so that it should be good for you, and you shall lengthen your days" (Ki Tzeitzei 22:8). The Mitzvah of "sending away the mother bird" applies only to wild birds. Unlike domesticated birds, wild birds are always in danger of extinction. Sending away the mother bird is an act of kindness to the world because it helps preserve the species. You might ask, "How does saving one bird change the world?" The answer is, when we all observe this Mitzvah, we collectively contribute to the proliferation of the wild birds. Keeping one bird alive is a small part of preserving the species. Even so, the Torah rewards the sensitivity of "sending away the mother bird" with blessings of goodness and long life. How much more so, if we do an act of kindness that genuinely benefits another person, HaShem will bless us with "goodness and length of days."

Moral: Be inspired to contribute to the welfare of HaShem's creations, and know that HaShem will bless you with goodness and many years.

Application: Reflect on the creations of HaShem and consider what favors you can do for them to enhance their lives. Perform a practical act of kindness for a person that needs your help or encouragement. Receive HaShem's blessings for a life filled with many good years.
