D'var Torah: "When the king sits upon his royal throne, he shall write for himself two copies of the Torah....and it shall be with him and shall read it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear Hashem..." (Devarim 18:18). The king of Israel is a reflection of Malchut, the Divine Kingship. The Torah is a reflection of Tiferet, the Divine Glory. Just as the moon receives its light from the sun, so too, Malchut (Divine Kingship) receives its light from Tiferet (Divine Glory). When the king of Israel holds the Torah, he unites Malchut with Tiferet. As a result, the light of Tiferet illuminates Malchut. When the king studies the Torah, the holiness of the Divine Kingship rests upon him and strengthens his influence in Heaven and earth. Additionally, the king's holiness eliminates the natural tendency of a leader to feel superior to his subjects.
Moral: The study of the holy Torah is a powerful remedy for the spiritual worlds in Heaven, as well as for the People of Israel upon the earth.
Application: Envision King David sitting upon the royal throne while embracing the Torah in his arms. Imagine the light of the Torah, strengthening the Kingdom of HaShem, and sanctifying King David with powerful holiness. Strengthen your commitment to Torah study and fill your soul with holiness, humility, and light.
