| What was the greatness of Avraham Avinu? Avraham is renowned for recognizing HaShem, as well as for his acts of hospitality and loving-kindness. While these qualities are precious beyond words, they are not the primary reason he was so beloved to HaShem.
Avraham was a "Blessing to HaShem" because he cared about others and inspired them with his spiritual and moral ideals! By enlightening society, he made them worthy of HaShem's compassion. There is nothing that HaShem wants more than to shower His mercy upon His creations.
HaShem loved Avraham because he uplifted his fellow man, and as a result, HaShem awakened compassion for humanity. The purpose of creation is the revelation of HaShem's mercy upon His creations.
Love and care for others -- and share with them your spiritual insights and values. In turn, HaShem will show compassion upon, and you will be beloved in HaShem's eyes. (Based on the Seforno)
