This Is For the Good
Nachum 'Ish Gam Zu,' was appointed to bring a gift to the Caesar in order to win favor for Klal Yisrael. Unbeknownst to Nachum, thieves stole the jewels and filled the chest with earth. When the Caesar discovered the dirt he was outraged. Nachum said, "This is also for good." Subsequently, the king was advised that if Klal Yisrael sent this gift, it must have magical powers. His troops threw the dirt on their enemy and miraculously defeated them.
Lesson: When a person recognizes that afflictions are rooted in goodness, the darkness will convert to light. App: When something seemingly negative occurs, say, "This is also for the good" and transform it to kindness.
